Alas, while I loved the Bond character, the real man (Connery), was actually something of a misogynist swine.

I will recognize his acting his characters superbly, I can't say I will recognize his efforts to play a human being.

I think some men have a difficult time with women in general and some women have a difficult time with men in general. I think it's usually a personal thing based on life experiences and such that they can't really help. But in the end, I think we're all human beings, even the misogynists and misandrists. Life plays out in tragic ways sometimes.

Fair comment. I've met right-wing people who are likable and left-wing people who are their own enemy. I've met LGBT people who are no friends to the other letters. Scientists who are no better to their science than religious extremists are to religion. Nationalism is often more harm than good. And corporations that could be fountains of good, but just don't want to be.

Most humans are often just good examples of the perils of stupidity. Which likely kills more people than we want to admit. Pity there is no cure for stupid :)

And no, this wasn't a political comment. I think I managed to include my entire race here.
You can find friends and enemies anywhere.

This is the only forum on the entire internet I post on. And it is mostly old men, and I like you guys. You have shown me respect. And I thank you for it. I am not a man-hater. It's a pity some of you are already taken :)

Some people simply hate men?

Hope that wasn't directed at me.
Myself, I like men. I think every woman should have the chance to meet a good one.
I've met a few myself.

But the world is full of bad ones. To be fair there's no shortage of bad women out there too. Met plenty of those as well.

Of course it was directed at you. I could care less whether you've met men or women, good or bad.
I was not referring to biological. But, that may have gone over your head?

Your comment, for which you doubled down, was inappropriate for a thread honoring a dead person. Like a fart in church or a cell phone going off in a classroom.

I'm not here to make comments against you. But, I will if I have to.

Maybe you'd have had something to say about John Wayne, Steve McQueen or any other dead actor from that period? How about John Kennedy? Ronald Reagan? Martin Luther King? Malcolm X when they died? They were all men too. By which I mean more than just biological.

I gave this the night to marinate and even entertained a thought that you would have had a second thought and edited out your comment. But, I got to see this.

Had you made your original comment in my presence I would have said "shame on you" and asked that you to simply shut your yap (I'm not going to subject myself to be your audience). I'm glad you are not in my presence. I cannot do much about what you type here on the forums.
I believe in free speech. I don't believe it's appropriate in every venue. You could have started a different thread, maybe titled it; "Those who hate Sean Connery post here"?

At least I could avoided reading that one.

I guess you didn't read the last post I offered. I love you too. Add sarcasm now.

My first comment wasn't out of line. I loved his films. I wasn't a fan of the man.

I love Charlton Heston's films too. I likely don't wish to drink a beer with him though. It's because of what he supports. That's my prerogative. I also really love Clint Eastwood's films. But, again, not sure I like the person. I think Mel Gibson is a great actor. I think he sucks as a person. And then there's Tom Cruise, love his films, but he's something of a nutjob.

It's easy to fall in love with the characters, but often the person in real life is not someone we might like. And so I failed to faun all over Sean's passing. And that doesn't make me a bad person. Loved Bond. Personally, I'd rather have Daniel Craig. But I don't really know the person. But he sure looks yummy. I have never dreamed of Sean's Bond, but I have had some really neat dreams of Daniel's Bond. It would suck to find out I didn't care for the actual person (Daniel).

I reeeeeeally like Jason Momoa. Damn, it sucks that he's married.
And I sure like Jason Stratham.
And I have long loved Richard Dean Anderson.
I really miss Neil Pert. But in truth, I know nothing about him other than he's one of the greatest drummers ever to play the drums.

I'm a woman dear. I don't expect you to understand everything I say though.

Yeah, it's safer. Movies usually ruin good books too. I've seen that they have brought several of my favourite romance novel series to TV. I never watch them though. I'm unwilling to alter how I saw the characters in my head when I read the books.

Sometimes, it's best to just remember the fictional people and leave it at that.
I'm never going to meet anyone famous while living in small town rural central Ontario.

Will always remember him as General Urquhart in A Bridge Too Far.
He was also in The Longest Day. Some other favorites:

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The Rock
Medicine Man
Family Business
The Presidio
The Untouchables
Outland

I forgot about TLD. That's two great Close Combat titles in which movies Connery made an appearance.

His scene in TLD was very short but I thought he did a very credible job with the character.

Rest in Peace.

Sean Connery stared in many good films. Among the less mentioned films, I do seem to remember that I liked him in these:

Highlander
The Name of the Rose
Entrapment
The Russia House
The First Great Train Robbery
Time Bandits

There can be only one Sean Connery.

Well I always think of Sean Connery as the James Bond. He just seemed to have more 'gravitas' than Moore - but maybe he was just luckier with the scripts? Whatever, he was a very, very watchable actor and it was really sad to see his last photo. Still 90 - not a bad innings at all.

I'd say Moore seems to me like a makeover of Bond into less of a 'man's man' and more of a 'romantic ladies man'.

@Orm, loved Highlander and The Name of the Rose. Two more of my favorites.

The Man Who Would be King. RIP.

And why would anyone dislike Charlton Heston? He was one of the first in Hollywood to march for Civil Rights.

I agree with you that Sean Connery seemed to have more 'gravitas'. However, I do not think that Connery got better scripts than Moore. In my humble opinion they both had about equal quality in scripts. Some good, and some bad. Moore, on the other hand, had better special effects than Connery.

I liked Sean Connery, but from all accounts Roger Moore was just a wonderful person, to everyone.
