Most of them are. But I play the game on a 17" lap top. If you are using one screen, I can post my screen layout here if you want it.

Yes please. I will replace the dead video card and get a 2nd monitor eventually because of work requirements etc but want to put this off for as long as possible!

I use a single large monitor to play the game.

Hi, one last question....
Now that my game brick wall problem has been solved,I want to play the scenario again and delete my previous saved game. There is no option to delete a saved game in the menu (see screenshot). It does give a directory path to where my test1.GAM game is supposedly saved, but when I go there the only saved game is fast start Barbarossa. Where is my unwanted test1.gam saved?

There you'll find fast start and the games you save.
You'll find the axis phases in the radio button Autosave axis, and likewise with allies,¡.
And in Autosave General you can delete the start and end of the game common phases.

Sometimes, earlier versions kept these saves in the Virtual Store folder, I believe. The latest hotpatch has fixed this and now it is in the Matrix folder under programs86(sic) folder... I think.

So how do I just delete a saved game? Not possible?

Never tried to do so, but if you use the windows explorer tool to go to c:\Program files (x86)\...\Barbarossa\...
and you will probably be able to delete them like any file inside your HD. I havent seen any tool inside the game (which doesnt mean there isnt),

Yes. That's the way you do it.
Here's my screen layout. Unzip the file and paste it under the map views (which can be found using Windows and is next to the saved games section).

Hi,
I found the pesky save game under C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\World in Flames\Scenarios\Barbarossa\Saved Games.
Deleted it and it's now gone!
My game was v3.0.2. The 'check for updates' in-game option no longer works. I went to the forum and saw there is a v4x available for download, but you need to install a beta version of a file before it will work. At this stage I don't want the added complexity of possible buggy beta updates and went for v3.2.0 instead.
Why on earth do you need to use dropbox to download the update? I can download entire operating systems with all the associated software without any problems from other sites, but Matrix force me to use dropbox to download a 40 something MB file? Is this move to dropbox the reason why the in-game option to update the game no longer works? Crazy.
Anyway, I used dropbox and downloaded the files. Overwrote the existing mwif.exe and a map .csv - there were no instructions on how to apply the update, but I figured out that was what you were supposed to do.
Re-started the game to test it still works and it does! So far so good - hopefully won't have any problems. But please fix the in-game update problem Matrix. So much easier to click one button and it's all done for you - rather than having to use dropbox and manually move files from your server to the cloud, then down to your pc, then to a different location on the PC's hard drive.
My rant about dropbox and the games clumsy update procedure is now done. Looking forward to starting a new game!

Hi, the check for updates seems to work for some and not for others, It did work for me like 3 weeks ago when we were starting our current game, just to tell me I waas uodated. To 3.02 or 3,00,02 whtever the name.
I guess it doesnt offer you 4.XX series since they are still beta and are giving new problems, like most beta do. I guess they are swiftly solving them but I wouldnt change unless I see very good comments or it changes its beta status. You can see there have been two hotpatches, we'll see now...

Same for me. It worked until a few weeks ago and I used it to check if I had the latest stable version. Now I get 'Error: update information for WIF could not be downloaded'.
It needs to be fixed because doing it manually is a nightmare.

Thanks for that, Centuur, you are most helpful, not flattering, just the truth. And the rest of the team.

Sorry if I didnt explain myself well. there were times in the past that it didnt work for me, but three weeks ago it did, as it does now, see screenshot. I dont know whether it's an intermitent problem, or more probably it depends on your computer configuration and permits granted to applications to download (security)...
Anyway, it's true that it is more comfortable to let it install itself but it's not difficult, I don't remember how it was the last time I downloaded, didn't it bring a note on how to act, inside the zip? That wouldn't be difficult : "copy the EXE file in the directory ...\xxx\yyy" or "execute the setup file"

Please ask Matrix Support for help on this. They should be able to fix the problem right away and perhaps that will help other players who have the same trouble.

To confirm, I upgraded from v3.0.2 to v3.2.0. The newer 3.2.0 also stores the saved games under C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\World in Flames\Scenarios\Barbarossa\Saved Games.
If you are running either of these versions, that's where they are kept.

I agree. Describing the download process as a 'nightmare' was a mistake. It wasn't for me. The instructions are. 'Within the zipped file are: (1) the new version of MWIF.exe, (2) the Release Notes for that version, and (3) a replacement data file in Data/MAP'.
I got it, but I'll bet people who are not computer savvy would be scratching their heads, even more so as they have to upload to dropbox, download to the pc and move the files again to a different location.
Anyway, I'll post the problem about the in-game update problem to tech support. They will ask me to check my firewall settings etc and we'll see how it goes. If It is a PC problem I will post the solution here.
Time to start my new 1st game!

I think this may be part of the problem. The screenshot above is what I actually see. I am running a single monitor setup and that's all I get. However when I took that screenshot and opened it in gimp, the image showed more desktop space to the right which isn't actually visible to me. In there is the Land combat selection/resolution window which I was expecting. I just can't get to it. Ignoring the fact that everything seems greyed out on it, I would guess this is a monitor/resolution in game setup thing.
The reason everything was greyed out is that it was the Germans who were deciding, and the German color is grey!
The color of any form where one country has to decide something is that country's color. One should pay attention to this, because it is not always intuitive who is deciding.
Two places where players frequently make mistakes are choice of combat table and where to apply AA fire. Sometimes the attacker will be convinced he should choose, only to discover he moved an ARM somewhere else, and the defender has an AT gun, and all those attacking MECHs don't help a bit. And in AA fire, the side being shot at always picks. Somehow a lot of people just automatically assume it is the side shooting. It never is. The form color tells you this.
So always check the color of the form to be sure the right player is deciding.

Hi,
I posted my complaint about the 'check for update' not working on the tech support forum. Didn't get a response but the good news is it started working - twice. The bad news it is now failing again. Work in progress? Hope so.

Hi,
Thought i hit another brick wall. I reached the 'end turn' phase and was prompted to place a Polish partisan unit on the map. I did this and was the unable to progress further. As before, the 'end phase' button was greyed out so I was stuck.
