In the Aleutians, the US carrier(s) sank 55 VP worth of transports, but 24 Inf Rgt(+) landed at Dutch Harbor prior to transport losses. Other than a few Mavis float planes doing naval search, the Japanese have no land-based aircraft in the Aleutians; we're working on getting some Zeroes and Vals out there, but the airfields need to be upgraded as well. CVs Kaga and Akagi (Carrier Division ONE) has been detached from KB near Babeldaob, sent east to Saipan to link up with the 2 CVLs (Ryujo and Zuiho) under Yamaguchi, and head to the frozen north. In hindsight, it was probably not a good idea to try to grab the Aleutians without air support, although we control everything west of Dutch, and it is contested. Now supply, fuel, and air power are crucial.

Only one TF operating in the Aleutians is still detected, and quite some distance from the retiring US carriers. When the Japanese return with supply, fuel, reinforcements, air power, etc. it will be under cover of 2 CVs and 2 CVLs.

The Japanese are abandoning Ichang; the force is currently surrounded, and will withdraw to the east across the river. The Chinese have an AV advantage of 1479 to our 559 at Ichang, but got a bloody nose when they attacked on the 22nd, so did not attack on the 23rd -

I grabbed Pucheng several days ago because it was vacant; I guess he wanted it back, although it's not worth anything (ie. no resources).

The US naval forces operating in the Aleutians have largely retired; several bombardments have left the surface forces low on ammo, and the carrier(s) need to replenish sorties and torpedoes. Hopefully, I'll be able to get plentiful supply into Adak in their absence.

And, the Chinese attacked at Ichang after the Japanese withdrawal, capturing the base. The sole Chinese corps on the east side of the river across from Ichang is now surrounded and will be destroyed. If the Chinese attack across the river they may be successful, but I'm not sure if they know that. We shall see.

Meanwhile, 4 Tank Rgt at Clark Field, having accomplished its mission, will conduct a hasty skedaddle back to Cabanatuan. Unfortunately, the unit's fatigue is too high to do it in one day, so an Allied attack at Clark may cause some pain.

Dec 27, 1941

The Allies did not attack the withdrawing 4 Tank Rgt at Clark Field; it would have been smashed, so I moved it in combat mode which allowed it to move only 22 miles. Another shock attack at Manila was unsuccessful (success would have destroyed the Allied units there), so 4 Tank will continue to withdraw, and Manila will be bombarded until Clark can be occupied by 38 Div and 65 Bde from Subic Bay and Lingayen, respectively. A regiment of 1 Div is enroute from Shanghai to join the recon and engineer elements already on Luzon.

The last 2 days have seen heavy combat at Loyang -

The Chinese horde at Ichang is still showing movement across the river. If it comes piecemeal the Japanese might defend successfully, for a day or so. If they come enmasse, the Japanese will be forced to retreat. In any event, it appears the Chinese may be able to establish a beachhead east of Ichang, which could put the Japanese defense of Hankow and Sinyang in peril.

The Chinese evacuated Sinyang as a Japanese division enters Nanyang to the north, which sits astride the main supply route to Sinyang.

This map shows the location and date of the US and Philippine units that have been forced to surrender due to having no retreat route. These surrenders will make it much easier for the Japanese to capture Clark Field (terrain x3) and Bataan. They should have all moved to Clark and entrenched, while supply is sucked into both Clark and Bataan. 85,000 supply was captured at Manila.

If he has no fighters on Luzon, bring on the Sonias and Idas! Break the air units into thirds and have them bomb around the clock in small packets for as many attacks as is possible to use up the supplies.
