I'm just saying, please don't blindly and ignorantly chastise someone or something because of ignorance and laziness. I.E., you may love steam, or vaccinations, but leave the rest of the world to live steam free, and vaxx free. All I've ever done is try to explain why steam is bad for our niche, and I am often ridiculed unfairly for telling the truth. I've said often that steam is good for some, just not us. It is adding to the degradation of our hobby. The only 'argument' for it is always 'oh, I'm too lazy or stupid to learn how to manipulate files on my computer so I need steam to do it for me'.

Give the rest of us a break and get with the 90's for chrissakes.

Per Steam, I am not a fan...but recognize that Steam is very popular with many gamers. (& sometimes, necessary for multiplayer & mods)
More so than, sadly, other reputable gaming stores such as Slitherine & Matrix for games of this genre.
Which, btw, usually give out Steam Keys.
One plus for this game, eventually, coming to Steam is how easy it will be to 'gift' it. [:)]
Shadow Empire is even on GOG now, so that will be a viable (favorite of many) site at some point.

The best solution is bought it from Matrix and get your STEAM serial number when it released on Steam several month.
I think bought from Matrix could make better profit for developers, and using STEAM is much easier for users to update games automatically.

Good to know it's coming to Steam. Guess I have to wait few more months

I agree with a lot of you.

Man, every comment from you in this thread just got worse and worse (why are you even bring vaccinations into this!). You are acting like you are the only person who knows anything about the gaming industry. You also assume that developers don't do research and assess their own performance on Steam vs. no Steam. Also, please define "worked closely". Your suggestion that you are not here to debate it either is fantasy as it is exactly what you continue to do [X(]

I personally buy my games from Matrix and when the Steam version comes along I install as it keeps them in a neat library with the rest of my games. How you can define those defending Steam as being lazy and unable is categorically ridiculous and narrow minded. Phrases like "Our niche" is exactly the attitude which causes certain games to struggle because certain users treat it like their own little club and offer no help to newcomers, often looking down their nose and offering little but insult. Community makes games successful, you can take a pretty sub-standard game and make it amazing if the community rally around and offer support and guidance. There is no larger community in the PC gaming industry than the Steam community...

I recognize the OP as someone who has been "around the block" a few times and is generally a good fellow. Not defending his hatred of Steam...just saying.

What is for sure is that DC:AO looks to be a phenomenally polished hex-and-counter game.

I always greatly appreciate having a steam edition. One account, easy access any computer, install and uninstall at will, games immediately, and even to a certain extent just letting me know the games exist without having to look for it.

I believe I own somewhere north of 20 matrix games. I know I've only been paying attention to the matrix website enough to track and buy two here. In other words, 90% of the business Matrix got off of me (all deserved, and including all three DCs) came from holding a steam version that got helpfully algorithmically cross referenced or bundled.

I like to think I am considered modestly serious in my wargaming. So, outside of a handful of hard cores, I wouldn't want to bet on NOT going to steam eventually yo give a game legs.

It's not some faux elitist technical competence, it's about market access.

You can do that by just copying a Matrix installation and mod the copy.

You are right but with my method I have two very distinct installations and I risk not to be mistaken.

I think people who don’t like Steam are people who don’t know Steam well. This was the case for me at the beginning.

Maybe for some, but not for myself.
Again, not anti-Steam just not a big fan...while recognizing the obvious convenience.
Remember, for many Steam games (not all, mind you) you must be connected to the internet...even in 'off-line' mode, just to play said games.
However, there are some games where one can run them via the 'exe' application in the game folder when not having internet access.

Just don’t like the graphics in that game, to hard to differentiate units. Anything out there for this game to make it easier to play?

It is odd that there are no major graphics mods available for PC2 on the Steam workshop that I can find. Definitely, some great new campaigns and some new unit additions here on Matrix and on Steam, but not sure about making the game easier to play...

I do agree with you on PC2 vs. PC1 overall. For some reason, I had bought PC2 on Steam first, but was pretty impressed yesterday when I bought the 1941 and 1942 DLC at Matrix and right away got the Steam codes and everything worked out.

Order of Battle WW2 is another very good game, which you might already have. The editor is easier to use, imho, and maybe the "simpler" graphics work better for you.
