cheers Darroch!

question:
I have just fought battle # 24 "Spartakova Raid" and get a Desicive Victory.
Then the Campaign send me directly to Battle # 27 "Serafimovich Assault" ... Is this right? Souldn't I have to fight some battles inside Stalingrad before that?
Last patch I have says RS14 ... is there another pach arrown?
best

Cheers to both you and Frank - Battle 27!!! It is very gratifying to see the campaign played this far!

As for the 'gap' you discovered, I am afraid it is a feature of RS1.5 - not a mistake...allow me to explain:

Regrettably, the six Stalingrad battles did not get designed - the original designers never sent in even partially finished battles and the one I was doing - Mamyaev Kurgan - was just too big and complex to test and would have been overwhelming to play - a real clickfest.

Also, Penetrator had pressed on and designed many of the post-Stalingrad battles and I decided to skip the player to Serafimovich in order to give Penetrator's battles a chance to be played.

I always intended to go back and do a few Stalingrad battles but there never seemed to be enough time. If I begin another set of battles I can either do Stalingrad or Kharkov 1943 leading to Kursk.....

By the way Gallo - I hope you can still recognize the script for the next several battles - they are the realization of the storyboard that you supplied to A_B almost two years ago as phase 2 of the Campaign Collective...I think Penetrator has done an excellent job designing to the script...I think you will find the battles on the way to Rostov to be a challenge...

I will always be happy to guide any volunteers in designing some Stalingrad battles - they can easily be inserted into the script using the built-in branching capability of the SPWAW campaign editor...I will not have any design time for quite awhile and when I do, I will most likely move forward to Kursk and beyond...

BTW: the Stalingrad "gap" offers an interesting opportunity for new designers to build a completely new branch of battles....

Good Luck at Serafimovich - now you are on the offensive!!

Gallo,

If you need RS 1.5 send me your preferred email address and I will send it to you.

Once I assemble it into a single package I will send it to FrankW for hosting - until then it is easiest if I email it....

Thanks Darroch :)
I do recognize the script of the Uranus and Saturn operation. I'm very happy about have reached these battles. Is like a dream come truth and I'm happy about had colaborated at least in this small sort. :)

About the "lost" battles in stalingrad ... there is not a big problem ... as a matter of facts I found more realistic that a movile force as the one that Russian Steel's Players are leading avoid urban battles and had sent in the reserves to be employed in the counter attack.

my email address is exequiel_lopresti@yahoo.com.ar

thanks again

Thanks Darroch. I have and continue to enjoy the Russian Steel Campaign. I cannot wait for a campaign that covers the last couple on WW2 years for the Russians

Roland,

You should see RS 1.5 in three files.

Let me know if it worked.

Hi Brad,

thank you very much, I received the files safely (in the third attempt, after the connection was breaking down two times  ;) ).

i think russian steel is too easy :D
( only a joke it´s challenging ! )

i´m now at a battle were you have orders to "delay the enemy and then retreat or so " but i´m advancing vs. the germans.
they lost a huge amount of tanks here.

perhaps i played too much PBM´s and now are to good f. AI playing ?:)

FrankW:

What battle number are you on?

I seem to recall you are far along....

As your core force gains experience, you may feel RS is easier...

It was difficult to predict how good a player's core force would be late in the campaign...

By about battle 20, nearly all my tanks were 100+ and the infantry was veteran or better....

If you could send some detailed feedback I may be able to adjust the playbalance some....

Cheers,

Brad

mhh.. i think the difficulty is okay, because german units getting better now.

and they have masses of them !

my last result was:

millerovo delay ( b.20)

22642 to 4125

losses:

375 men + 5 AFVs to the russian

1319 men + 60 AFVs to the germans

my score is 48 till now.

my best unit:

T34E M42
exp. 122 kills: 123

Frank,

Glad to hear it is not TOO easy....

Unfortuantely, the losses are really not historical at all but because the AI is too predictable we must give it more troops to make up...and that leads to massive AI losses if the player keeps his/her cool...

Hopefully the next game like this (CL?) will give the scenario designer many more options to command the AI units....more flexibility in assigning waypoints and objective and timing would make a big difference...

But for now, those long 75s are very deadly and you will see more and more of them....

are stalingrad battles featured, too ?

esp. i´m interested in operation "wintergewitter" + "donnerschlag" the german try to reach the pocket + the planned outbreak of the 6th army by army group don ( von manstein ). is there a scen or camp. which covers these ( partly hypothetical) fights?

I think you will get your fair share of that bit. I think I personally designed at least 3 battles from that chapter:)

There's one thing we realized (to our chagrin) toward the latter part of this project: killed units retain their experience when repaired, even if they are wiped out to the man. Is this not the impression of the rest of you? This is something that deserves the big bad B-word (and should be easy to fix).
