Yeah thats understandable. Do you have suggestions on working around the pestilence problem?

Apply it intermittently. If 1% per turn is too much, apply 1% every other turn; every third turn, etc.

Ok, I probably need to create some type of repeating string in the event editor. Thanks for that. Did you try to model mechanical attrition when you created the north African scenarios?

Hi Gang. Just spent the afternoon reading through the comprehensive wish list thread. 1800 posts. Happier times. I am having a bit of trouble getting the downloaded document to open. I have MS Word on my computer. Is there anything obvious I might be doing wrong. Failing that does anyone have a working copy they could email. me?

I downloaded the document and tested that it opened and it did [ using the Apache Open Office suite ]. You can find it below:

Thanks Larry. I had a pretty good read of it.
One important question. I have been reading for years and years that people wanted the rivers to be on the hex-sides. How come it didn't make it to the wish-list?

Um...I have no good answer for that. As I recall there was a LONG discussion of the benefits and/or cons of having hexside rivers and I don't remember if it was on the public board or the development board because it was about 5 years ago now. I think the long and short of it was that it was decided by the players, the users, that if there could be some workaround that could be used that would be good enough for now. But long term it might be best if there could be a switch the scenario designer/player could use during the creation of the scenario whether or not *THIS* tile was a hexside river and on what side. That's my understanding.
But as you know nothing at all was done by the development team to facilitate such a thing. And those scenarios that DO Exist that have hexside river hexes are exstreeeeeemly rare. I cannot remember the name of such a scenario but I have memory of seeing the map for that scenario and it indeed had hexside river hexes. I don't remember what workaround the scenario designer used to accomplish that but I'm thinking that he must have used one of the terrain templates replacing the graphics with his own. And putting that tile on the map using the editor would be that new terrain. I'm guessing at best here so....

Item 2.1.

Item 2.1 reads Hexside Rivers. 2.1.1 Possibly effect bridge-repair and river-movement issues by modeling engineer and riverine units so that they straddle the hexsides.
Whilst the heading said hexside rivers what was under it didn't. Hence my confusion.
But thats Ok. As long as hexside features are under consideration I am a happy man. I understand that it's a significant coding change so I won't hold my breath. But at least it's on the list.

Wonder how existing scenarios would be impacted. Imagine that at a minimum Objective Tracks, terrain, urban hexes and deployments would need to be reworked. Also, would the few remaining active scenario designers put the effort into making new scenarios or would we again hear complaints that only existing scenarios are being updated.
Regards

Hey Rhinobones. I probably didn't communicate that very well. My wish is for Hexside rivers (and features) as well as ones that run down the middle of the hex. Look at Innsbruck for instance. Mountains on either side; valley up the middle. Some rivers and hexes run straight and lend them selves to hex sides. Others wriggle around like a worm on a frying pan and are best shown as running up the middle.

If it were possible to simply add hexside rivers as an additional terrain tile, older scenarios wouldnt need to be affected.

Yes both would be best. Already have the code for one. Just a switch in the program either user adjustable or automatic would be all that is needed. Not saying it would be easy. It would affect so many things.
However, looking at a scenario XML file you'll see that it has a 0 or 1 condition for hexside rivers. They will be at a 0 by default. Makes me wonder if some of the coding for them has already been done by Norm before he decided which way to go.
