I believe they patched out the possibility to disembark land units next to Batavia. With version 1.00.05 the game says "no landing locations available". I don't see how it's possible to avoid running out of oil after 2-3 turns as the Japanese player.

Don't go after Bandar Lampung on turn one, this is now a big mistake. You are landing two SNLF or three that can be useful elsewhere by taking the oil fields in Borneo.

The advantage of Borneo is that you can take ALL its oil fields on turn one. But, more important, you can send back this oil to Japan on turn two.

Going directly to Palembang is a lotery. You need to control Cape Carot on turn three or four, otherwise this is game over. The problem with this is that, if it is raining or heavy raining, your chances to take Cape Carot are nil.

To avoid running out of oil after 2-3 turns, take Borneo first.

THis guide needs to be updated. Just spent a hour trying to figure out how to invade Batavia but it can't be done anymore apparently.

This guide is indeed obsolete. On turn one, you should:
. Invade and blockade Philippines
. Invade and capture the oil fields in Borneo
. Advance in Malaya. Do a port blockade of Singapore. Forget about Bandar Lampung on turn one.
. Capture Hong Kong, Wake, Tarawa (or Canton Island), Rabaul and Lae.
. Invade and capture Surabaya.

I am going after the victory points. Press the V hotkey.

During the next turns, your main objectives must be:

Taking Manila and Philippines will surrender.
Taking Jayapura and Wewak in New Guinea.
Taking Singapore.
Taking Rangoon and advance north in Burma to capture Ledo. Ledo is an important location for China supplies. Check the game notes.
In China, trying to take Changsha, another victory location.
Deploy air and land units, coming from Japan, in Solomon Islands. This is your main defense line.

Be sure to change your tactical bombers from Close Support to Naval Air Training. Put them in Bomb Naval mission and Full Support mode. They should engage any detected enemy fleet around.

Upgrade your fighters to Escort Fighters and to the latest technology. Be sure they are in range to escort your bombers.

Put the Kido Butai to rest in a central location like Truk.

And then, this is your game. Enjoy. :D

And don't worry, I have done terrible mistakes at start too.
