Now that its moved to trees. I present to you the Trees from hell. Ailanthus altissima
This tree was miserable. My home in California was plagued by this highly invasive species. My neighbor had them. they grow to 50 feet and live 50 to a hundred years. they have a suckering ability that allows them to spread continuously. This species came from China They would spread their suckers out traveling under our blacktopped road and show up in our flower beds between any separation in the concrete. Once they showed up applying poison did not work. Prolific, as they are they would produce other roots. How I disliked those trees, so much! I was constantly cutting down the new shoots that would show up.

Try ripping out the top part and then apply motor oil to the stump in the ground. It will travel along the root structure and kill it all. You might have to apply the oil several times over the course of a month.

EDIT: When I say apply a little, do NOT pour the oil on it - that is too much. An eyedropper drip would be enough.

Thanks for the tip. Fortunately for me, I sold my home several years ago and no longer live in California. I'm sure the new homeowner is having the same problem. I poured gasoline, oil and poison. It would kill the specific shoot I poured it on. However, underground the suckers(they carry moisture for those new roots) multiply and you can't see them until another 15 shoots have come up. This particular tree(or Plant) is described as one of the most invasive species in Europe and North America. It was a constant battle.

I belong to a couple of other forums, private groups, where political discussion is prohibited. One of them is a private group for current and retired US Army professionals in a certain specialized field. No, not special ops, not trying to hint at that, something much more mundane but quite interesting. We discuss the state of the speciality, jobs available, Army policy, and sometimes events in the news (usually Army or DOD related but sometimes not) that directly affect the specialty. We discuss how those things affect the specialty and lessons that can be learned for practitioners. There is a strict rule not to let politics enter into the discussion, and in nearly all cases, even in things related to presidential directives or congressional actions, they are done without politics entering into the discussion. But every now and then someone just has to make a political comment, usually just a totally unecessary swipe at one political party or the other, or some highly polarizing politician. Which often leads to a counter political comment. Etc. There is a warning, and if it continues, the person is kicked out of the forum. But nearly everyone can follow the ground rules and skirt political discussion, even if the topic is about a political decision by the president or congress. It just takes a little self discipline. Those who can't help themselves just need to avoid such groups and go where there are no such rules. In today's world there are almost limitless opportunities to find your place.

My money. My choice.

You agreed to the rules when you joined. Just like you did in 1970.

It's your choice to follow or break them. The latter at your peril.

No money involved either way.

True. On December 31st, 1969, I swore an oath to defend the constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Where have I failed at that oath? I am interested to know. Correct me, please.

Also, please, tell me how my money and my choice is against forum rules?

I did not swear to spend money on games that are released here. Or did I? I'm getting old, but I will defend to my dying day to uphold my oath to the constitution of the United States - including the Bill of Rights -, and my right to spend my money in any manner in which I choose.

Good to see in your group no politics involved with your military personel. I don't think USA is a split State. Don't have very serious regime problems IMHO. No new Afghan and Syrian refugues in your borders and such at least.. Good you ban politics in your group. For a game community Matrix approach is also good. Regards.

By the way, there are no ladies here any longer.

The only one received a permanent ban.

Received it?
I think it was more that she earned it.
All eyes on her the way she liked it?

As far as your oath and failing in that goes, I do not know since I do not know anything about your military nor criminal records, nor do I know if they are complete in regarding your actions.

As far as I understand, your rights under the US Constitution and especially the Bill of Rights are in regards to only the various governments of the United States from the Federal level down to the lower governmental entities and not in regards to private businesses. I will not go farther about spending your money since that gets into the political messes.

A private business can curtail your speech while on their property including these forums here. A private business can also have conduct clauses for you in contracts with them.

Failing in my oath, huh? Interesting.

Criminal records? You amuse me. I did get a speeding ticket back in the mid 80's in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Internet trolls saying that I have a criminal record. Nice.

I never stated that you have a criminal record. You brought up your oath and stated that you never broke it. Since I do not know about your criminal (if any) record nor your military record, nor if you did something that you did do yet should not have done, I can not state that you broke your oath.

I am NOT a troll.

Alianthus is a tough beast. It grows all over the right of way embankments on the Amtrak tracks around Newark NJ. I worked as an earthwork subcontractor on a track renovation project there many years ago. They use serious total kill herbicides and still don't get full control. The amount of root we screened out of the soil was insane.

Not sure how you got to this reply when you were the one who brought up the oath and asked if anyone could say you failed in keeping it. RJ then said he didn't know anything about your record and listed some types of records that might be relevant in judging conduct.

At no time did he say you had blots on your military record or any criminal record - you just chose to interpret it that way. The subject of the thread is "chill", which means a certain tolerance for posts that could be interpreted in various ways. Seeing the best interpretation is good for your health. [:)]

EDIT: Ooops - I didn't notice there were more posts after the one I was replying to and I repeated much the same response!
D'oh!

A sign of the times.

As to the earlier comment - not by you - that no females remain on the forum, I'm not sure that can be totally verified.

This forum has become strange recently. Maybe reflecting pandemic tensions but also the western world seems to be going through the throes of an identity politics battle.

Also quite a few posters here seem to have long standing beefs with each other so we could be discussing the wetness of water and they would still find cause to argue with each other.

I used the word "politics"...

Why do we assume that LOL stands for "laughing out loud"? Could it also stand for "languishing on land" or "look out Larry"?
