It's just that the simulation needs adjustment and shows us how to do it by making all the area within 3 hexes from the CVs as Reconnaissance high.
No, all the hexes aroung the CV fleet is completely ignoring the search arcs of spotting planes.
During the early stages of 'Coral Sea' the two CV forces got with 70 miles of each other, but did not sight one another.
What happens on one day in a 2 week turn is not representative, but it's not 100% sighting either.

The Japanese did not sight the US CVs because they refused to launch search aircraft from the CV. Talk about a massive mistake. Had they launched search aircraft, the Americans would have been found and probably both CVs destroyed.
That occurred on the 6th. On the 8th, both groups were aware of the position of the other and launched simultaneous attacks. Thus, in a 2 week turn, yes, the CVs would know each other's position and launched strikes.
I'll leave a link to a video of the Battle of Coral Sea
which explains in detail the search efforts of both sides in the battle. Essentially, the Americans enter into the zone of combat on the 2nd and 6 days later the 2 CV groups clash... once again inside the 2 week turn window.

Corps level game folks. If you want to know that Captain Fujistu got shot down in his A6M2b Type 0 Model 21 over hex 57, 43 from 20mm anti-air from the battleship North Dakota by Private first class J. Smith who is 18 and loves Marlborough cigarettes, was captured, and committed suicide before being interrogated then you need to play War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition.... otherwise you play WarPlan Pacific lol.
It is 2 week turns. Which means a severely damage CV takes 1 turn to return to port and 2 turns to repair, and 1 turn to move our = 2 months time.

This is not possible. Historically, no A6M2b Model 21 Type 0 planes were deployed in range of hex 57, 43.
The game is broken.

So having finished my first campaign vs a Japanese AI on normal, I found that almost all CV battles occurred in the vicinity of the Gilbert Islands. The US was using Pearl Harbor as its supply base while the Japanese were using Truk, with the Gilbert Islands pretty much dead in the middle of the two.
In my CV fights, I almost always had 2 land based bombers and 2 submarines in support. The Japanese attacked me with 5 CVs vs my 5 CVs. I am not sure why the Japanese did not attack with 6 CVs, perhaps it is a function of the difficulty level.
Because of the air support and subs, I always had the Japanese TF identified. Of all the attacks which occurred between the CVs (5 rounds on differing dates) only once did a bomber squadron fail to find the Japanese TF and that seems valid and historical. And only once did a bomber squadron sink a Japanese CV.
In the early war in the Pacific, the Americans attempted to engage the superior Japanese fleet in conditions where they were supported by ground based air.
So after having actually fought my first campaign, it leads me to set-up another round of testing.
I shall report back again with my results as soon as I have them.
