The first draft of the manual is written, laid out with images, but it needs a fine tooth comb, that Berto will be doing. Once he is done, I'll post a PDF link.

Speaking of which, will there be an option to purchase the printed manual?

I don't believe so, unless Matrix does otherwise.

It will be formatted to be printed on regular 8.5" x 11" though.

The main reason, is that the game is a living game, the manual gets updated with each released and UPDATE as we improve the series.

Fair enough.

I may need to invest in an e-reader for this and WPP...

Will CS Vietnam be playable on older PCs i.e. XP or Vista? Do you have a minimum spec for the game?

Looking forward to the release & thanks Jason & all the team for your work on it.

1.0 Campaign Series: Vietnam: 1948-1967TM
Thank you for purchasing this installment of the Campaign Series! Please take the time to read through the manual as it contains a lot of information covering the basic play of the game, tips for mastering game play and explanations of the various new features that are included with the various updates.

1.1 System Requirements
1.1.1 Minimum System Requirements

To play Vietnam, your computer system must meet these requirements:
1.5 GHz or faster processor
2.0 GB RAM
8.0 GB free drive space
1366x768 resolution
Windows compatible sound card
Windows 7, 8 and 10

1.1.2 Recommended System Requirements
For preferred performance, your computer system should meet these requirements:
3.0 GHz or faster processor
8.0 GB RAM
8.0 GB free drive space
1920x1080 resolution
Windows compatible sound card
Windows 10

As a rule; the faster the processor and more RAM you have, the faster the game will play, and one can play the excessively large scenarios with no problem. The screen resolution is dynamic; meaning the viewable area will be relative to your monitor. The larger the monitor or higher the screen resolution you choose to use, the more play area that will be exposed.

Hope that helps?

Thank you so much for your support! It is truly appreciated!!

CS Vietnam might run on Windows XP, maybe with a glitch or two. Not having any XP systems to test on, we have no way of knowing.

Bottom line: XP is unsupported, you are welcome to try, but no guarantees.

Hi Berto.

A couple of questions, if possible:

- maybe you remember that CS:ME ran on Mac under Wine (Crossover) with graphical glitches. With the improvements, is it expectable that those glitches will be solved in Vietnam ?

- probably already asked, if so, my apologies, but will CS:ME be in the future updated to Vietnam "standard" ?

Many thanks

Yes, with the CSME 3.00 UPDATE.

About the game running under Mac Wine, I couldn't say. IIRC, the only glitches I experienced when playing CSME under Linux Wine were two:

[*]This or that dialog box would occasionally be blank. Fixed, I believe.
[*]Sounds glitches. Fixed, don't know.

I have here -- what? -- several physical Linux systems, and up to a dozen Linux VMs. But I simply haven't had the time yet to test the game with Wine. I will get around to testing it Real Soon Now.

(We had three Macs up until spring of last year, when we converted two of them to straight up Linux systems (imagine an iMac running Linux natively, hahaha! the older Mac Pro system died on us) -- this because we could no longer upgrade the aging hardware to run the latest, and supported, Mac OS X.)

All that said, I have no reason to believe the game will not run under Mac/Linux Wine at least as well as before. Since Wine development and bug/glitch fixes have continued in the meantime, there is reason to believe that the game might now run glitch free. Hopefully. <fingers crossed>

Talking about weird glitches... It's been a while (running Windows 10) that I have observed some curious behavior when the units movement animations are played at zoom level 1 (the closest 3D view). If the animation speed setting is left to the "medium" setting (that's right in the middle), long animations (for movement paths covering dozens of hexes, well within the capabilities of helicopters) are punctuated by a huge CPU spike and the game UI becomes unresponsive for a couple of seconds. This doesn't happen on the 2D views or if I up the animation speed setting. This feels like the animation code gets caught in a very tight loop "polling" to check whether some action/resource is available.

My desktop computer is a 16-core rig, each core a 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11900K@3.50GHz, so whatever the game it is doing, it manages to exercise the cooling of the system. The spike is significant enough that I get to hear the CPU fan kicking in (which usually only happens when I happen to introduce an infinite loop in some of my codes).

You have a pre-release copy of CS:Vietnam?

Sorry Berto, should have said the above happens to me with CSME 2.01.

I have substantially revised the animation code in Vietnam 1.00. These revisions will be retro-fitted to CSME. Hopefully that will resolve any issues.
