I use the old school map graphics, so they will look a little different for me.

Here is what my 0 thru 4 look like.

Heh, it would be cool if we could toggle the map appearance. 0- TOAW, 1- like "Third Reich", 2- like "War in Europe" ...

Notes.

The air and naval use identical icon foreground and background colors for all sides. Meant to be a recognition aid, of sorts, and highlight that their cooperation with ground forces is usually less than perfect.

The Russian mercenaries black and white icon colors reflect the patch of the "Wagner" group.

The Ukrainian territorials have an icon background that matches the brown of their heraldic colors.

The Ukrainian volunteers use icon foreground and background colors taken from the UN flag.

As I mentioned, I'll be away for a few days. Please indicate any desired changes and additions.

I switched 105 [Russian army] to the more recent one you made. I think it does look better than the original Red one. Thanks again, Bill !

Many of the Ukraine units list 'Anti-Aircraft Missile Artillery Battalion' as part of their TO&E, but they don't say what these are. Does anybody know what would be a typical AAMA for these units?

The longer range stuff wouldn't be in a line BN. I would assume they would still be similar to the old Soviet era TO&E with the equivalent of SA-8, SA-15, and SA-6 equivalents. Of course things change over the years and I'm sure they now have non-Soviet stuff in their arsenal.

Also, as you can see from the list, they also have AA guns.

Assuming you are starting with a small war and it escalates, here are some ways to look at the countries.

  It's Complicated: Bosnia & H., Denmark, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine.

I would agree, except that I'm curious as to why you'd say "It's complicated" for Denmark since Denmark is a NATO country, and it's part of the EU.

My post was in relation to the combination of Nato and the EU with respect to their defense arrangements. Denmark, while in Nato, is not part of the EU’s common security and defense policy.

And thanks everyone else for contributing. I am working on the OOB's right now, and that is causing me to do some map work at the same time as there is a lot different since 1945. Especially since Ukraine renamed just about everything since 2014!

So I am keeping track of all suggestions and links, although I don't have time at the moment to read everything. If you feel something is so important that it can't wait, please post a short quote with the link. It is appreciated.

There was one of a Ukrainian infantry unit lying prone on one of the approach roads into Kiev early in the conflict which I thought was iconic (even if the tactics seem pretty suicidal when you're not dealing with spear-armed tribesmen).

EDIT: ok this is not the one but I think the juxtaposition of the mundane street furniture with the military paraphernalia really highlights how this conflict feels for those of us in the Eastern Hemisphere.

I was looking at your screenshots and asking "do armies in 2022 transport supplies to the front by rail?"

I would guess not. Rail transport might be used as far as some fixed depot deep in the rear, then everything else would be trucked forward. This is relevant for how you handle rail, supply points and supply radii.

For some reason that pictures reminds me of the rebels deploying to fend off Darth Vader in the opening scene of Star Wars: A New Hope.
As an alternative, I suggest using a picture of the destruction inflicted on city buildings and the civilian population. Unfortunately, there are plenty to choose from. I think civilian deprivation will be the legacy of Putin's war.
