I also don't understand complaints about the game as a whole... it is basically DWU with a MUCH better UI and graphical presentation of everything. In general a better game than DWU, I certainly are not going to play the predecessor anymore while I have this game in my hands.

DW2 is simply taking the old game into a modern gaming standard and is an excellent platform future growth in my opinion.

Are there things to complain about and wish for, sure there is... what game don't have any issues or shortcomings?!?

I'm eager to see some more development on features and balancing on the game in genera. If they add some free rotational option I would not be against it, but I would not see it as an important priority as you don't really need it to play the game. The game are essentially a 2.5D game not 3D.
I agree. There's still some UI standards that haven't been made though. Like shift and ctrl select for ship groups. Ways of interacting with the map that most games have. Its infuriating to try to choose a planet from a wide system-wide view and instead you select one tiny freighter in orbit that doesn't even show up on the screen. I wouldn't say that DW2 meets modern "standards" because most games, or windows in general, have that kindof stuff figured out a long time ago.

The next stage of DW2 development show center around UI as the focus.

I do think most of that will be fixed shortly to be honest... I know they said many of these thing was simply stuff they had no time to implement. The game have been in development for such a long time as it was. I would not say these things are game breaking but I agree some of them are a bit frustrating not to have.

Yep.

I'm really hoping that we as a community give enough support that the development team can stick with this game for a long time. That's one of the reasons I never really mind DLC, because it supports the long-term sustainment of the development team so they can keep working on improvements.

Fingers crossed.

DW2 is definitely an upgrade over DW1. The only drawbacks it has compared to DW1 for me:

* the UI offering less options to do things like selecting a ship or finding a location

* the NPC AI and pathing logic is inferior

* much less races

The first two issues are expected since the game is built on a completely new engine. The last one is understandable as the devs have already explained multiple times, and will certainly be taken care of in due time.

Other issues that DW2 has are shared with DW1, and are already identified by the devs and the community. So they will eventually get fixed too (I believe). Some of those issues:

* upgrading ships of different lines separately (this is what I'm waiting for to get back to the game personally)

* the ship designer needs to offer more QoL options

* the music is bad/limited

* better filters and search capability in lists

* refueling logic and tanker AI

* galaxy generation that obeys player choices, especially as far as placement goes.

* so many messages that can't be filtered out because of important notifications mixed in the same category as unimportant ones.

* the game editor is half-finished.

* the resource economy is handled badly by freighter logic.

Otherwise DW2 is an upgrade on every level:

* ship designer might seem limiting, but now I am actually creating more varied ships for specific jobs. In DW1 it was a common problem that ship types were mainly visual. Many players ended up creating the same ship across different hulls, because that design made the most sense. Also, races having different hulls makes the ship design more varied across playthroughs.

* empire AI, despite its problems is much better than in DW1.

* fleet battles are way better, despite some pathing issues.

* research is better. I love the location-based research, but the NPC AI needs to improve how it utilizes it.

* more stable, more optimized and more pretty game.

* nebulas are a very nice idea. The problem is again pathic logic and galaxy generation being excessive.

* resources make more sense now. Particularly fuel and construction resources.
