That's where I started too. I remember it came out in November and i couldn't wait for my friend's Christmas vacation to get started.

Then it was Carrier Force in '83 on my Apple IIc followed by War in the South Pacific in '87, both by Gary Grigsby.

Then Pacific War in '92, Uncommon Valor in 2002, War in the Pacific in 2004 and finally this one. PBEMs and posts since '09 under my old name that i lost the password to.

I started with playing Warship on my Atari XL in the late 80s as a teen.
I remember a guy sitting next to me in the school bus while I was reading the manual (I still own it

). He said that he has some plastic models of the ships from the manual.
That same guy is now one of my best friends and I am just playing WitP AE with him.

I don’t post much at all but still play the game and glean information from time to time from the forums.

Been a member since 2005 when I started playing WITP.

I started war gaming as a kid in the late 80’s, notably with the old Amirauté (which had a Guadalcanal campaign), Axis & Allies, the Victory & Avalon Hill games, etc. Transitioning to computer gaming in the 90’s, and notably long hours on Steel Panthers (designed by none other than Gary Grigsby), as well as Civilization, Europa Universalis, etc. I discovered WitP late, when AE was in preparation (and if memory serves, I actually pre-ordered AE at the same time I bought WitP, with a discount due to the pre-order). I have not played that many other games since then…

EDIT: and in ten days, I’ll reach the 15-year mark on the forum, although there are periods where I barely logged and mostly read it without posting…

I've been playing since UV. WITP was in development by the time I got into UV and only discovered it because it was in a store. I take a break now and then but I always come back and continue playing. I read more than post but I have been hanging around since 2003, I think.

I am always saddened to hear of the passing of people who have contributed to this wonderful game.

I have been on this forum for a while, still play and still enjoy reading y'alls posts. I have been war gaming since the 60s when I received the Avalon Hill game D-Day as a gift.

I also played the board game version of WitP and the computer version. Plus there were the long time waiting turns in WPO....GP

I could go back further into the past but I can't remember a lot of things. I do remember receiving my first wargame for my birthday in 1970. It was Avalon Hills Panzer leader. I made 4 2'x4' interchangeable map boards. I had build up 4 allied divisions and 4 German divisions. BIG FUN....GP

Not an old timer here, but I found Matrix games after I went looking for PacWar and found it free on the site. I was reading some AARs and the one that got me to buy the game was when someone invaded Hokkaido in 1944 . . .

I actually did see WITP in a store one time buy I did not buy it since my finances were a little to tight at the time.

I, too, got my first true wargame for Christmas in 1970, Avalon Hill's Blitzkrieg (I was 10 then). Many other AH games followed, easy since not only was my hometown Baltimore but that's also where AH was located. Many SPI games followed, then after enlisting in the Army my boardgaming dropped off for obvious reasons, until computer gaming picked up and I got my first Commodore 64. Then it was PC and DOS games, then Windows, and eventually PacWar, Carrier Strike, UV. Although I've been on Matrix for quite a few years, I don't do PBEM (don't have the patience) and I'm basically a glorified lurker. Hands down, WITPAE is the best damn game I've ever come across and I sincerely wish this last update resolves all these issues. The folks who've been working on it are champions, in my book, and they do wonders to keep this game alive and enjoyable!

I've been here since 2009. I don't post much but I check the forums every day.

Began with Uncommon Valor, then WITP, now WITP-AE. Started wargaming with Avalon Hill's Panzer Leader in the late 1970's, then Squad Leader, etc, as I suspect many have done. First computer in 1992 and been at it since. Hard now to find good war games on PC anymore, like they used to make, but there are still some out there. I don't play as much as I would like, what with work and family, which I am sure is the same for many. Still a ways to retirement for me, so I have to ration my playing time as best as I can.

I started lurking on this forum in the early 2000's when there was mainly just War in Russia and Pacific War as topics. First joined I believe in 2003 then sometime after I had to change my internet service and lost my password. Rejoined in 2006. I don't comment much but sure do a lot of reading here. I got my start playing board games in the late 70's well actually does army men count? started playing with those in the mid sixties!!

I wish I still had all of the stuff that I built. Lost it all in a move.

It also all began with me as a kid with my first Commodore 64. I've seen many others say the same. I played the hell out of Rommel: Battles for North Africa. But what really first got me hooked into the Pacific War in high school was a Nintendo game called P.T.O II:

From P.T.O II in high school to PacWar to UV in college to WITP to WITPAE in my twenties-forties. Quite a journey...WITPAE really is the dream pinnacle such an amazing game...

I have played War in the Pacific continuously since Dec. 2004. (PBEM only) I check in on the forums but do not post much. I will say, every time I check the forums, I learn something I didn't know about the game lol
