Some notes re SPWAW.
In the past I have made comments that some, specifically the smaller nations have been poorly presented in their OOBs. This covers Finland, Belgium The Netherlands, Spain, both sides, and a few others.
I have said all this somewhat politely.
As a background I did pull out my old CD of SPI and SPIII to compare theses OOBs. Not a good look in any of these, all not well done.
Yes, winSPWW2 has done some updates and corrections, but they are not perfect either, but much better than SPWAW.
I initially started on looking at the Belgium forces in the OOB and did some research and noted some oddities. Being polite again. I did produce some material and posted it at the SPWAW depot.
Belgium:
My original Belgium study is here:

As time progressed I realised that this did need a further up date, which I have not around to do, Some points:
1. The documentation needs to be updated
2. The material up to May 1940 and after D-Day needs to be created into an OOB.
Finland:
I started this because I found it a little off re reality.
Yes, some things in SPWAW can not fully be recreated from the real thing due to limitation of the code but these should have been picked up at the early times of writing.
The first issue I noted in both SPWAW and winSPWW2 was the representation of Jaeger units. This sent me off to look at light infantry in the Finish army.
Again, note that winSPWW2 was better than SPWAW in this.
I did produce some material/documents with organisation charts re these units, here:
Notes first draft - Finish Light Units
https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/spwawde ... -t739.html
This covers:
Jaeger Battalion, (Jääkäripataljoona), 1939 – 1945
Light and Jaeger Units in the Infantry Divisions, Regiments and Battalions, 1939 – 1942
Sissi Battalion, (sissipataljoona), 1939 – 1940
Border Guards and Border Jaeger Units, 1939 – 1944.
On rereading them I feel I may need to fix a few things in this, but in general it’s a reasonable outline re Light and Jaeger units.
The next thing I looked at was the Finish army’s infantry divisions from the Winter to the Continuation war.
This prove to be a bit messy but I did produce some material, but not put out yet.
It covers the Finnish Infantry Divisions from 1939 – 1945.
In doing this I realised I repeating myself re weapons used and the time period of use.
This sent me off to start writing about the weapons in a bit more detail so the material re Divisions would not have that reparation.
At present I have covered the use of Heavy and Medium Machine Guns in the Winter and Continuation wars, plus some modern use. This is restricted to both Finland and Soviet use in these wars.
This can be found at:
https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/spwawde ... -t739.html
The document “Medium and Heavy Machine Guns” has some interesting history imbedded in it as well.
I have also started writing on the use of Antitank rifles and rifle grenades.
Research on this has been very interesting
With the Finish material there is still Arty, Armour, AA defence and other formations as well as weapon discussions.
It is taking a while as much material is in Russian which is not my best language.
With all these OOBs, Finland, Belgium The Netherlands, Spain, etc, and writings it is taking time.
What is the outcome:
1. a set of documents to outline the various force structures and weapons.
2. Slowly a new set of OOBs developed not specifically AI compliant. Why? I have no idea how the engine in SPWAW selects units so I will ignore that. These will only be user derived OOBs.
3. The MM mod will be incorporated into the SPWAW engine.
4. New icons and corrections I have made will be added.
5. Corrections to unit pictures, (the LMB files) made, I have some already
6. Corrections to the ENC files and allocating them correctly.
May be more, but slowly.
