Perhaps CMO needs the 32 bits version of the MSWebp.dll even though is a 64-bits application?
I can't answer right now.
I need to do an experiment - find the file for my version of Windows 11 х64.

The issue is finally resolved.
F2 altitude/speed window and all dropdowns disappear in real-time mode.
• Sidebar crashes when collapsing unit image section; COMException HRESULT 0x88982F8B logged.
• Steam file verification fixed crashes (downloaded 2 missing files).
• Root cause for missing unit images: Webp Image Extension was not installed. After installing it from Microsoft Store, unit images display correctly.
• Important note: The issue appeared after the transition from JPEG to WebP images starting with version 1.08.
• Conclusion: CMO depends on Webp Image Extension for WebP rendering. This dependency should be documented or bundled.

Interesting.
So, if the WebP support extension is not installed, you experience the same issue also with v1.08 ?

That's right

Good to know you finally solved it
I have not installed that WebP support extension, AFAIK, is it not part of Internet Explorer?

Maybe it's part of Internet Explorer, but I originally had Windows 11 installed with Microsoft Edge cut out, since I use Chrome.
So until CMO 1.08 was released, it didn't affect the game in any way.

Yes, of course, Edge not Explorer.
Good to know if anyone else has this problem.

This might be the root cause of the problem. On machines where Edge is present (ie. the VAST majority of Windows 10/11 installations) this absence of the WebP extension has never manifested as a problem. Presumably the Edge installation also includes the WebP support.
So, it looks like my question above:
foxid259 < Did you do any "debloat" on your Windows installation, per chance?

Should we pre-emptively ask that users just let Edge be on their system instead of "optimizing"/"debloating" it?

I would remove Edge and WMP if CMO would not need them.
CMO is the only reason to have them installed.

Sure, let's also start ripping out the parts of the kernel that we don't think we're going to need

I would say it a little differently, when using new features, it is worth paying attention to the new components that are required for the proper functioning of the game.
Also, please note that I am in no way blaming the game developers, whose work I greatly appreciate.
This is just an example for other users of how to solve a technical problem caused by the user himself.
Thank you very much!

I will say that MS has warned users for years about removing Edge as part of "debloating". I assume its not just their way of keeping edge on the system. Edge has been integrated into the OS for several ancillary functions. My last three companies all explicitly insisted users not remove Edge for that reason. You can use Chrome all you like, but don't uninstall Edge.
