Pitas can confirm, but I think the ships/port event is WAD.

I confirm. In the first few days, many ships suddenly found themselves inside or arriving at enemy ports. The Republicans lost more ships.

Curious on the history there.....what happened with the warships July 17/18 is all well-documented. But what made a merchant ship, on July 17th, a "Republican" ship or a "Nationalist" ship?

It would seem most ships were just confiscated by the side that owned the port they docked in, period, and didn't really change control on Day 1

It's fine either way, just curious......I imagine like the Navy, most of the sailors were Republicans, and the Officers sympathized with the Nationalists

I'll tell you how I did it...

I did it according to the home port where the ship was registered.
If the AK was registered in Valencia, I classified it as Republican.
If the AK was registered in Vigo, I classified it as Nationalist.

My colleague Piteas and I examined in more detail about 40 large APs and TKs what they did during the uprising and which side they should have stayed on.
And that's how it's done.

There are spies everywhere which is why you get information about the enemy! :twisted: Actually, what a developer stated was that by giving everyone information about the units coming in, it eliminates and unfair advantage to some players who look things up with the editor.

Be grateful as Republicans when you are given ships outside of Ferrol because they were actually in the port when this mess started.

Not an issue, it has a lower movement cost along that route.

How is movement along a coastal path faster than on a major road?

It is going to take some getting used to the fact that travel on major roads can be slower than travel in open terrain.

Oh yes, it does! But an all vehicle unit might move differently.

LOL... Am I supposed to be sending supplies to the French? My status report tells me of several villages in the Lourdes area that are "supply level critical". I found that interesting because it made me refer to the map where I saw one of my favorite towns in France Luz St-Sauveur (listed simply as Luz on the game map), a lovely if touristy town at the base of the Col de Tourmalet. I spent several days there hiking and cycling while waiting for the Tour de France to come through.

This game has certainly potential, but as you have pointed out the UI is 'clunky' to say the least and the counter art .... well, it could have been more attractive. It''s maybe a matter of personal taste, I know, but when you look at the map which is beautiful, it is a bit surprising that the counters are so 'minimal'.

I hope my impressions will improve when I dive more into this game and hopefully improvements (graphics issues for high end laptops etc.) will iron out the technical issues with this game.

Much of the graphics reminds me of WitPAE (about 20 years old). And that simulation was certainly not designed for extensive ground combat. I am playing in 1440p and the sidebar for the LCU is a strain to the eyes.
Though I think this is technically impossible, I would like counters like in WitE2.

The insights RangerJoe and others presented here are pointing at a great and unique game, but with a quite ugly presentation/graphics.
But I hope, there will be improvements. Until then, I am following the interesting and mostly helpful contributions in this forum.

Personally speaking, I occasionally play some old Dos games. Yes, pre-Windows 3.1 games. I enjoy them and I don't mind the graphics if it is a good game. I would hate to have a pretty game that either doesn't work or is not enjoyable to play.

As far as the UI goes, as per my understanding, a developer liked that UI from WITP:AE and I am comfortable with it. I was able to jump right in during the play testing of the game system long before this game had beta testers. The manual was just starting to be written.

I don't own WITW or WITE1/2 so I only see pictures and I don't know how the games actually are.

I have been waiting patiently in eager anticipation to playing this game since its release announcement , there is so much about it that draws me in. So inspite of the mixed comments and discussions I bought and installed within a parallels virtual machine, so it's running on Windows arm 11 on a Mac. I spent many annoying hours just tinkering around with the resolution and I am now relatively happy with the current setup at 1920x1600 , no windowed. I have committed a good number of hours playing the Tutorial scenario, which has entailed watching YouTube video's and reading the manual. My first impression is a game of great depth and scope, but in its current state, playing is not an enjoyable experience. The UI leaves a lot to be desired it feels as though its has been developed as an after thought. The map though beautiful becomes seriously pixelated as you zoom in, the fonts and icons in both the lower and upper bars are large wasting map real estate, the hex detail box is also far too large. The LCU list is an annoying box that is difficult to work with and can only be minimised or you are forever shifting it out of the way. The whole mechanics of navigating and finding information just feels onerous and at times a battle. I am happy to support the development of these type of rich and detailed games, and I have much respect for the developers so I do not begrudge handing over my money for something that is really still in beta, because I know it well get better with time. I think for now I will spend my time reading the manual until it has been through a few patches, hopefully that won't be on the same time frame as a Paradox game.
