and even basic information on enemy units should be available (I should be able to tell if the unit is stationary or moving!).

You can tell what kind of movement an enemy titan is doing by clicking on it's icon on the map. Enemy's heat level can be determined with a green scan. Congrates on the Eureka moment [:)]

Just right mouseclick on the enemy unit {if multiple units are in the same hex you can click through via buttons for each unit) to obtain movement and other information.

The Interface is worth learning. Those that have learned it are finding that TOS:WS is unlike any other game. Its unique. It scratchs a strategy itch that no other game satisfies IMO. Don't worry about taking a while to learn the interface, you'll probably be playing the game for years to come and still discovering some minor detail every now and then. Its kind of like chess in that aspect. No wonder it was described as 'Mechwarrior Chess' in Computer Gaming World.

Reading the manual, playing the tutorial, reading this forum, reading the turn system quick guide attached in a sticky thread - this should answer all the questions. It's all there.
'9' is not in the manual, but then it was only implemented in the patch. But it is in the F1 help screen, and it's all over this board. If some time is spent on reading, frustration is largely decreased.
The game *is* fun. It just isn't brainless point-and-shoot. Takes some time to learn all the ins and outs, just like any good old board game. The modal system is actually very intuitive and elegant (and realistic) - you just have to get rid of the turn-system thinking that is used in most games.

Thanks for the pointers everyone!

Personally, I've always felt that a game which has a good forum going -- particularly when the devolper's have a constant presence -- has a huge edge. No matter how good the manual and in-game help is, there are just so many things to learn by reading other peoples questions, comments, and experiances. Sometimes it may make people (OK me[8|]) a bit lazy so they ask, instead of read, but hey -- the point is to get people into the game and keep them there.

Kudos to Matrix in general and Viscious Byte in this particular forum in keeping up a presence and keeping peple in the game.

I downloaded the Deep Core missions and moved them into the Campaign folder (since it's supposed to be a campaign) and I went to the battle Menu and tried to find that campaign and or maps and could find neither. Went back and loaded them into the maps folder. Went back and couldn't find them again. Looked for the other campaigns and didn't see them either. The manual says to click LOAD CAMPAIGN from this screen but it does nothing. So how do you A--get to the campaigns that theoretically shipped with the game B--download and play new campaigns/maps?

I played a one on one last night and got around OK but got to a point in the battle when my mech wa sitting there facing the wrong way getting wasted and doing nothing and I kept waiting for my options to pop up so I could move but it never did. I understand the goals of the game design and it's cool, but trying to figure out who is doing what and when will I get to do something new is very confusing. I think I was cutting my moves by clicking Call Move.

I appreciate new game designs I have been playing all kinds of games for a long time. I am just honestly saying this game isn't very approachable.

1. You should select solitary AND load team 1 from file. Otherwise you can't select a mission or campaign.

2. If you crash down you press the stand button. When your attack mode will pop up you should !NOT! press call move as you already gave your move order. You can see the time the move will take in the lower right area. IF you call move during your attack mode you break your current move order ! So just press WAIT ON -> MOVE in attack and time will advance until your move (stand) is finished. Call move/attack will always activate the corresponding menu at the cost of cancelling any current action. You can check your teams order status with the '9' key.

The maps for Deep Core go in the campaign folder with the other campagin maps. (look for files like Android Rebellion or The Metaborator in there)

To get the load campaign option, you must play with a custom squad or squadA that comes with the game (sorry can't remember thier name) Battle Module -> solitary -> New Game -> Team1/SideA Load team from file -> Pick squadA or a custom squad with select all -> accept -> select map -> load campaign

Don't do that.[;)] Once you given a move order (stand/turn/whatever) It WILL complete that order UNLESS you Call Move from another screen or fail a pilioting skill check IF one is required for some reason. Call Move is just saying "Stop what you're doing in mid-step, You have to do something else and it's worth the wasted time and possibility of falling down"

I havent even got the game yet after reading the explanations here I understand the game mechanics.

To me this makes a far more tactcal game than a wego or igo ugo systems.

I havent an interest in sci fi otherwise I would purchase the game.

I really need a demo which would convince me one way or the other.

Wodin; I think Larkin is working on a demo. Meanwhile, look for the thread that mentions Version 1.4 download. It gives you Rosary's site which still has the freeware precursor to Warring Suns.

Just played the tutorial and I will eat my words. The system is tricky to get to grips with. However I will carry on.
