well try what I have suggested, it doesn't take too many turns (5 or 6)....simulate the carrier battle...and see the results from both points of view...

My guess (and it could be wrong), is that my file sent to him was either saved in a different folder ..Then, if one is not happy with the result, erase it and import the US turn again. That way one could rerun the scenario from the beginning of the turn and pick your favorite result...And maybe the combat save somehow is not readjusted...Just a thought..
That shouldn't work because the random numbers for the combat are generated when the ALLIED player saves the game. No matter how many times the Japanese player loads that file the numbers will be the same. The only problem might be if his computer is reading those numbers differently (because of different OS, low memory, or other issues) but it would probably still read them consistantly each time...just differently than yours. I've never seen any cheating in UV and I think if it were possible the developers would have eliminated it, like they did when they encrypted the data files to hide each player's password.

Joverlay (sp?) - if you're up for a game drop me a line (
frank.cooke@virgin.net) - we can trade tales of what our mutual opponent did to us in this game....

To answer the orginal question, yes cheating is possible. I feel that I could hex edit savegame files and in time
figure out how to modify them and cheat. But at the same time I think it would take a lot of time and effort to
to that and certainly not worth my time and effort to do it.

Much easier just to hammer your foe the old-fashioned way. Unfortunately for some, due to headware limitations, this option is not available....[;)]

Most of the time my opponents do not have to resort to cheating to defeat me. I make enough mistakes to lose on my own. [:D]

For fcooke:
I'd respond with the private email thing but cant get it to work!
I'd love to start another game. One of my games was interrupted by a real war (guy called up I guess) and one by a medical problem (game lasted longer than the opponents health, gonna be a problem with WITP to).
I can play either side, but prefer Allied.
Send my your preferences.
joliverlay@pgtc.com or
jlay@uark.edu should get me.

My best is sending the carrier force out with the F4F'S resting and relaxing
on the flight deck while the TBF'S AND SBD'S enter the abiss as they
no longer have a fleet to come back to.....[:D]
of course that was in the second week of the war......

Been there and done that. I no longer put my CV based fighters on standdown. Instead I put them at 10% CAP. At least if you forget you will heavily escort a strike and possibly do good damage to your opponent. [;)]
