Geez, that's weird. At least we can pretty much rule out your hardware. Usually for rebooting/BSOD I check the hardware first just to be safe, then move on to system drivers. Try rolling back your 4-in-1 VIA chipset drivers.

Go to http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=344 and grab the v4.43 or v4.45 and see if that helps. Your board isn't the newest thing on the block and I've had application problems with pre-Hyperion boards and the newer Hyperion drivers.

Other than that, one of the Matrix staff will be better able to help than me.

Thanks for the advice von Murrin, but I might just wait for a response from the developers. I assume they're taking a well deserved rest over the weekend?

I posted my dxdiag log and process list, so I'm hoping to hear back from Erik (or anyone that might be able to help) on Monday.

cheers,
Peek

Peek,

At this point, I think we're going to want to have you try the patch that's in the works to see if that resolves this issue. We think we've found a DirectX bug that may be the cause of a number of these problems. I appreciate the time you've put into checking the different possible angles on this - if the patch doesn't help, we can continue from there.

Regards,

- Erik

Erik,

I know you're not in the prediction business, but would it be possible to get an ETA on this patch? Obviously I'm quite eager to play the game, however I don't wish to hover on the boards (as I've been doing). So, are we talking hours, days, weeks, or months? As always, any help is very much appreciated.

kind regards,
Peek

PS - I've even tried doing a system restore to the last time I remember playing UV, then installing WiTP, but no luck.

Peek,

It depends on the sound issue resolution time. We would like to release an update this week, ideally with a resolution to the sound crash issues. If the sound resolution takes longer (we hope not) then we will likely release an update without it to get the interim update out there in a final form.

Your problem seems fairly unique, so I'm really not sure what's going on if renaming sound and video didn't help and even small scenarios won't load without a reboot. Really seems like that has to be a hardware issue or a hardware driver issue, but I can't see anything wrong with what you've got. Trying different revisions of chipset drivers or reinstalling the ones you have shouldn't hurt if you want to keep testing in the meantime. If the sound crash resolution doesn't help you when that's available, I think we'll likely have to suggest that you do some step by step hardware troubleshooting and testing.

Regards,

- Erik
