Don't send a Bombardment TF to hit Ragoon when there is a Jap Carrier TF in the IO.[:-]

and three weeks later there are still bad guys on the island, although I have control of the base.[&:]
Then again, I didn't lose half the cruisers in the TF[;)].

Ian,
Not sure if you know this. But this confused me too. Order your forces to deliberate and shock attack until the island in clear.
Just because you control a base hex does not mean the enemy is not in the hex.

I will add two of my own.
If you are going to stand down CV cap to let them rest a few days while your sailing to a destination. DO NOT FORGET to turn the cap back on when nearing your destination. I have forgotten this twice now with predictible results [:(]

Secondly, if you are going to march a unit out to clear away the enemy in another base or another hex...make sure you your own base is well defended.
I marched the entire 1st USMC from Lunga to Tassaforga to engage some units that fled when I took Lunga. I had just reached Tassaforga when an enemy TF comes in and lands 2 divisions and an SNLF force...I finished clearing the enemy and then turned around and hauled ass back to Lunga. But I was to late [:(] Lost the 1st USMC CD regiment, one USAAF baseforce and two Sea Bee batallions. [:(]
Live and learn

If by day two you haven't taken Wake pull everything out as fast as you can, cuz on day 3 or 4 the US CVs will show and say hi - usually wiping out every ship in the area.

Not always true, I sent my Carriers to Wake, they just sat there for three days due to bad weather[:(], so a created a surface TF of 2 CA and 4 DD's, one of my CA's got fired on by one Japanese destroyer and my TF aborted the attack, the next day the Japanese got away!

One thing I like is nothing seems to happen the same way twice!

True, but barring bad weather the USN CVs will wipe out the IJN TFs attacking Wake.. I lost 2 CLs, 2 DDs, 2 APs and an AK I believe to airstrikes from the CVs.. I also have several AKs limping back home for repairs...

Just something you could avoid - especially since you can save the unit to allow it to be rebuilt over time as well.

I wonder, does the KB have enough fuel to swing by Wake on its way back? Since everyone seems to love to reinforce Wake, it might be good to stop by and say hello to Enterprise, et al. [:'(]

Oh it does.. I swung by and killed some planes and bombed the marines some more, but the USN CVs were long gone before KB could arrive... BTW, I hit Midway on the way out too... why not [:'(]

1. allied Tankers loading oil at Palembang better make sure there isnt a japanese CA/BB surface fleet any where near as they (9 the tankers) take so long to load the sufrace fleet will catch them
i lost 8 tankers that way last night :-(

2. If you decide to evacuate the philipines just do it straight away, it saves alot of heartache and lost AP's later

3. As you retreat aircraft away from the japanese base caputruing advances, make sure you more them more than 1 or 2 bases away, as the japanese troops wont take long to get to thta base either :-(

I remember thinking to myself after that, leaning back in my chair and rubbing my eyes.. "I need a drink."

LOL

Saipan's a b****. Bomb, bomb, and then bomb some more.

I think the dumbest thing I've done so far was to transfer a FS to Aparri by accident on 12/8. Oh well, at least I'll get them back next year.[:D]

I too now know better than to send in bombardment TF's without air cover.

LMFAO! How about the Iowa and New Jersey with 3 CA's and 5 DD's at full speed so they can arrive in the light of day with no air cover and get pasted by coastal guns and 4 carriers. I guess I thought the Japs needed some target practice!

Restart!

On day two, I decided to send the POW TF from Sing north to have some target practice with the amphibs landing supplies and troops on the Malay Pen. Target practice is what happened -- to me! Both my TF Cmdr and I were surprised to find two surface TF sitting there. One torp, Repulse goes boom (finally got to see one of these!), with only the POW and one DD limp home.

Did I bother to check the destination hex for Jap supporting forces? Nooooo! Doh!

Repulse and POW are torpedo magnets. They have a blow up wish.
Sending them bach to Trinco is no help either, half way there, the commander of the TF decided that he wanted to return to Singapore. (Good thing I caught that).[X(]

its a good idea to change the future objective before boarding a tf. you lose the gains while on the high seas.
