I was one of thost that sent in my DXdiag. I applied CoffeeMug's (Thanks!) batch file and was able to play a turn with sound without a CTD. Seems like you're on the right track.

There is a strange sound preceding the bombing sound when a base is bombed. Best description I can come up with is it sounds like Cousin It from the Addams Family talking. I realize this isn't a fix, just a workaround so this may not be the case after the patch is released.

Hi again,

well, I applied my batch file, so I should have all suspected files out of use now.

But ... my tutorial keeps CTDing.

So I have renamed the whole SOUND directory and it works. But no sound [:(]

Cheers,

CoffeeMug

Hallo Marc,

yup, I applied the patch 1.1, then the reg patch.

Renaming the above files wont do it. The NOSOUND trick does it.

Cheers,

CoffeeMug aka Panzermann

Renaming the sound files worked for me. I get some squeeking every once in awhile but no crashes so far.[:D]

Well, it *works* for me...if having obnoxious screeches and wierd thumps counts as working. It doesn't crash anymore, but I'd rather have sounds that work...

Holding breath for patch.

Renaming those files also worked for me, though I hear very loud and strange clicks, whistles and computer squeals during some bombing.

Also, "ground bombardment" (not naval bombardment) sounds awful. It sounds like someone tossing trash cans around. Is this intended, or is it an artifact of the bug?

Hey Erik, how is it looking? Is it safe in assuming the culprits have been identified and the patch/fix being tested? Those of us with idle minds, and computers[;)], are dying of curiosity[:D].

Hi Guys.
I just resolved my problem with W.I.T.P., I downloaded the two patches but I also renamed my sound file (Xsound) so now I play the game without sound and no crashes. I couldn't have done it without this forum. Thanks[:)] I also fixed my UV game as well, two in one day[:)] I again just rename my audio file (Xaudio) and voila it works. What can I say[:D] once again my Thanks....

Sorry about that mistake, on the UV I should have said (Xvideo) instead of (Xaudio)[:@] I think it time to [>:] two out of three today is enough...[:)]

Hi,

The beta sound patch is online and I've sent out e-mails with login info for those customers who volunteered to help us test. If you volunteered and have not received an e-mail as of a few minutes ago, please e-mail me at erikr@matrixgames.com and I'll make sure it gets to you. For those who are patiently waiting, thank you for your patience and please bear with us. This should be the final stage for this large patch to fix this fairly bizarre and certainly unexpected issue. We are aiming to have it tested and released during the next week.

Regards,

- Erik

Thank you for doing the humane thing and cutting our chains from our PC's and allowing us to experience life "one" more time before the patch[:D]. Sounds, pun intended, like you got a fix on the CTD issue which is great news. I know, like many others here, you will continue to instill greatness into Witp and look forward to enjoying it...until Witm comes out[;)]. Keep up the good work, guess i should go take a nice long look at the sky while i still have a chance...is it still blue?[8|].
