Maybe. It could also be that "goshikisen" was an unofficial name bestowed by crews rather than an Official IJAAF Codename. Just out of curiosity, do you happen to have a translation of "goshikisen"? That could help clear things up - or then again, it might not.
You know, I bet this sort of thing is a big part of the reason why the devs just went with the Allied codenames.
Oh man, now you've got me looking all over the place to find the definitive name of the Ki-100. Arggh this is so geeky.

Ok, it seems that the formal name is the Goshikisen, but the Japanese informally called the Ki-100 still as the "Hien". Goshikisen seems to mean "Experimental Fighter" so that name may also be just a temporary name that was never changed to Hien since the war ended so soon after the introduction of the Ki-100.

Well, looks like you beat me to it. I did find an alternate translation of Goshikisen as "Year Five Fighter" (as Reisen was the "Year Zero Fighter"). Neither of these translations would appear to represent an "official nickname" such as was bestowed upon IJAAF types from the Ki-43 Hayabusa on, though, so I'm still leaning toward the idea that the Ki-100 never got a name.

I want to change all of the names of the Japanese planes to use the actual names instead of the allied 'codenames'. Does anyone know of a good web site that lists all of the Japanese names? I found this one

Hmm I can supply some of the names from a couple of the books I have. Here is a few:
Ki-27
Ki-43 Hayabusa (Peregrin Falcon)
Ki-44 Shoki
Ki-61 Hien (Swallow)
Ki-84 Hayate
Ki-100 Goshikisen
A5M Type 96
A6M2 Zero
A6M5 Zero
N1K Shiden
J2M3 Raiden
Hope this small amount of info helps.
According to my book the Ki-100 didn't have a name.

Ki-100 was also designated "Army Type 5 Fighter ": Goshikisen = Type 5 in Japanese which is why you see it applied - it is not a formal name like "Shiden" (Violet Lightning). The use of Reisen for the Zero/Zeke is in the same vein: A6M = Navy Type 0 Fighter: Reisen = Type 0 in Japanese.

I am very much thinking you are correct that there really wasn't any official name to the Ki-100 due to its really short operational time.

Thanks Tomo. I should be good to go now to start editing. I'm just waiting for the next patch before I start.
It's too bad the game isn't unicode so I could input the names in kanji. That would be really cool. [:D]
