Hey, no prob SunDevil. I shouldn't be venting at the testers... I need to go spam DR some more [:D]. Thanks for the input man, I'm glad you like the mod so well.

Well Bodhi, USPS isn't exactly the most reliable service, but I haven't had this much problem with them before. I think it's both DR and USPS personally.

Just installed the latest drivers for my Nvidia Geforce 4 (a Leadtek one). A quick test already shows faster scrolling.

Their 20 Meg install program however fell in a heap for me at least. Had to pick out the correct .inf file manually without a list of which one was which. Doh!

And I can't help myself, as an IT professional I have to have a gripe at the software world in general.

What ever happened to backward compatability?
I've had to update sound, graphic and other drivers about every 2 - 3 months to run the latest software, usually 2D stuff. I've even got games that won't install because the latest version of DirectX is not compatabile with certain versions of Install Shield!

What new technology was used that is not supported by DirectX 9.0b, but is in 9.0c?

End of gripe

Damn fast typing? [:D]

I noticed that my combat resolutions are much quicker now too.. to the point where I'll have to increase the delay to see what's going on.

Works great for me though. The game feel much less stodgy now.

Yep, worked a charm for me too - after reading this thread I upgraded from Nvidia drivers 56.72 to the latest 61.77 on a GeForce 5600 card - and everything graphical in WitP seems far snappier, which speeds up the whole turn process.

wow....that is amazing...i've never seen such a big jump in performance by a device driver... Matrix may want to look at putting this in FAQ or as a sticky specifically for the slow naval battle and scrolling problem....granted it is prob not a matrix issue....this acually worked on both of my computers with diff GeForce cards

before anyone jumps on me...i know that matrix suggest to up date drivers...but people may not realize that there is a new driver out a couple of weeks ago. I didn't and i just did this for all my device's a couple of months ago.

I have a GeForce4 Ti4200, none of the newer ForceWare drivers have worked properly with that (although nVidia claims the card is 100% supported by ForceWare). Slower and messier graphics, anti-aliasing doesn't work as expected, random lock-ups and so on... so for every new attempt, I've had to rollback to the Detonator set.

Has anyone with a similar card had any luck?

Wow! Amazing! With new nVidia drivers WitP runs at least 50% faster on my PC! And it seems I'm not the only one. I wonder if they ever tested WitP with anything but Ati cards?

USPS isn't exactly the most reliable service, but I haven't had this much problem with them before.

I can contribute a bit on this subject, as I deal with mail that is mis-routed on an almost daily basis. Sadly, the USPS IS pretty unreliable, but mainly because like any Fortune 500 Company (of which as a branch of the U.S. Gov, they are NOT), they are increasingly relying on technology to "improve" their issues. However, this technology is very sensitive and prone to mis-sorts. We frequently receive mail addressed to other individuals/companies, as well as other organizations not even in New York. This happens at least 3-4 times a WEEK and despite complaining to the Postmaster, it continues to happen. I personally will only use the USPS as the LAST resort, when I need to send something. TG for online banking/bill payment! Oh, I must add that I received my CD-On-Demand within 7 business days, so I know it worked for some? 'Tis unfortunate that Matrix must deal with issues such as this, for it requires energy better directed toward improving their products. Can't wait for that "phantom arrival ship" bug to be killed!

Yep

But that has very little to do with *which* card you happen to have.

nVidia cards from from pos lite type cards all the way up to power monsters with a step inbetween of about $5.

Most packed systems will have one of the low end cards in it, most home built systems will have a high end card. The differences between these is staggering. I corner to corner scroll in < 2 seconds, but I happen to have one of those monsters.

A slower card because of all the map shifting during the turn execution will actually run the turn slower because it is just waiting for the darn screen paints. In some ways, WitP is no different then any FPS when it comes to speed. You need a lot of video power to get that speed up, almost more so then cpu power. The only mega cpu crunch is the crew training check where every ship there is must be checked to see if the crew skills increase.
