Thanks, Jess. That works. Is there any way to change the displayed name of a weapon without modding the OOBs? I was thinking of changing one of the rifles to ".30 Winchester" for the miners and changing a .30 cal HMG to "Gatling Gun".

Thanks, I'll take you up on that when it's ready. I've designed a TOAW scenario before, but I've only done a bit of piddling with the SPWAW editor. Right now my design time is a little sporadic, but I've made surprisingly fast progress on the map, since it's a fairly simple one, just a few creeks and lots of hills with high grass and forest. Hopefully it'll be tactically interesting. The miners were well armed, but not nearly as well as Chafin's defenders. What I had in mind was UMWA(United Mine Workers of America) squads that are low on ammo and will need to close with the defenders in order to make use of their explosives, shotguns, and small arms to oust the deputies and mine guards from Blair Mountain.

Hope I'm not being a pain, Jess, but I'm back for more advice on the editor. It's so much easier to ask someone who's knowledgeable rather than hunt through the manual.
I more or less finished the first draft of the map tonight and have started customizing my squads. Is there a way to change the squad weapons of a whole formation, or do you have to do it squad by squad?

no prob...
the only way to change all the units at once is in the OOB editor. I suggest that you do not take that road for this project. While it is easy to do, players will need your modified OOB to play your scenario, and most players do not want to replace their OOBs for custom OOBs. However it is easy for players to copy and save the original OOBs to a temp folder. I modified OOBs for my War of the Ring series, if you would like a look go here...

Now I'm trying, unsucessfully I might add, to add an airstrike to the anti-union forces OOB. I've selected US Army as the nation, weather level is set to 1(best), time is 8am so it isn't dark. I did notice that in the bottom left hand side of the screen, it shows zero air sections available. I tried changing this on the preferences screen, but it stills shows zero. I even tried turning off the rarity toggle and that doesn't work either.

Finally, I want to give the miners something which replicates the explosives that they were able to steal from the coal companies. Is there any difference between a satchel charge and a demolition kit?
check in the Spanish Republican OOB. They have a unit called "Dinamiteros" ... so you can figure out which kind of explosive they have [:D]

So... were those Miners unionized compañeros fighting against the exploiters and its police servants? [:D]
If that is the case I'll build some molotov cocktails inmediatelly!
A las barricadas!! No pasarán!! [:D] [:D] [:D]

Yeah, pretty much, except for the compañero part, West Virginia not exactly being a bastion of Hispanic culture.[:D]

Yet another question:
I've got the planes added. A couple of problems; the editor automatically puts in a group of 2 Italian CR20s, and I only want one. Second, I need to be able to edit the weapons loadout for the plane. Can I do this and if so, how?

the editor automatically puts in a group of 2 Italian CR20s, and I only want one.
1. After you purchase the planes go to deploy
2. Use the "N" key until you come to the unit the screen will not jump to the unit but the units information will show up in the bottom of the screen.
3. Replace the unit with any other unit uing the Change Current Unit Tab
4. Only replace the #1 unit not the #0, so if the planes are group C0 and C1 only change the C1
5. Buy any single other unit.
6. Reassign the plane to that unit using the Assign Current Unit to a New HQ Tab
7. Go back to the buy screen and un-buy the unit and presto byby plane.
I need to be able to edit the weapons loadout for the plane. Can I do this and if so, how?
1. Follow #1 and #2 as above
2. Edit the weapons
3. That will be one cold beer please

Thanks, Jess. I've started testing it a bit to see how my FC, experience, and morale values combine to affect the casualty rate and the flow of the battle. I might also make some minor TOE and map changes. Needless to say, the anti-union machine gun team lead by WWI Medal of Honor winner Tough Tony Gaujot is chewing up squads of miners like there ain't no tomorrow! I've already toned the old guy down a bit.[:D] In an attempt to be fair to the miners, I'm starting to think that I may have given them too many snipers.[:)]
Once I get a feel for that, I'm going to adjust those values, add in the objectives, and send it along to you for a playtest. Thanks again for offering.

Okay. I've been playtesting this thing and fiddling with the experience and morale values. Is there some kind of table that I can look at to see what the default morale/experience values are for different nations during different years? I'm trying to get a guide as to what will work best.
Or let me put it to you this way: both sides in this scenario were basically ad hoc formations, but had amongst them many combat veterans of WWI. Both sides were highly motivated. What values would you suggest? Right now I have experience at around 30-45 per squad, and morale in the 80s for the miners, in the 50s/60s for the anti-union forces.
Also, how do the fire control and experience values differ? Does experience have some effect other than improving the unit's firing accuracy?
I also used Canada as the nation for the miners, and I got tan colored squads. I want the UMWA squads to be blue/bluish gray, something along the lines of the Italian squads I've seen. How do I do this? I'd also like to use the new 8.2 icons instead of the old ones that the game defaulted to.

Finally dug up some morale guidelines in the manual. I think I'm going to lower miner morale and raise anti-union morale. Also found time to program the AI for both sides.
Still can't figure out how to swap icons, though. Help!
