Joel stated 2nd qtr 2005 so it's not too reasonable. [:D] Watch EB and you'll see as every release date comes and goes they'll push it back a month until magically they are right.

No I didn't. I said "Although I'm not prepared to discuss a specific release date, it should be before second quarter 2005."

So March 31st release?[;)][:D][:D]

... Especially considering the desire for companies to release during the holiday buying season. The game testers are already saying they would buy the game today as is and it certainly looks very promising from the outside...

--way

Unfortunately, every other game company in the world is also trying to shove product out the door just in time for the holidays; as a result, a lot of games get lost in the shuffle each year. Sometimes (most times, I'd say) it's better to avoid the crowd.

Sheep... Haven't you learned yet? I have been keeping track of several games on this forum and it appears that the "release date" and the actual date of release are way off. Clearly, matrix announces a release date (either to the forum or a company like EB) just to drum up interest in the game. Then they come back and say, "we don't know where that could have come from, the game it no where near ready. Please keep checking the forums for more information". It's all marketing/advertising. Just check the other forums if you don't believe me. Take a look at Flashpoint Germany, they announce a release date of something like January 2004 then July 2004 then now its going to be just a few more weeks. This game is the same as the others. Keep the stupid public interested by announcing "release dates" and then never come through. Let me be clear on this one, I too would much rather have a polished game rather then a buggy piece of s*&t, however, just try to give us a better indication as to the real release date. Obviously, many of the rumors of a release date come from the general public as shown above. My spare time is quite limited and I would rather spend it doing something other than watching and waiting.

Deadman, understand that Matrix is only a publisher, ie an "umbrella" for very diverse and heterogenous development teams. Some of those teams have record of producing excellent games (I'd say 2by3 certainly falls in this cathegory), other development teams have, well, less shiny record, both as regards "release dates" and quality of their games (I won't name those teams and their games cause I don't want this thread to degenerate into something ugly [:D] - and no, Robert Crandall, developer of FPG does not fall into this cathegory IMO).

Yes, some Matrix games seem to have their release dates postponed forever - but none of those games is being developed by 2by3, so putting all those dev teams into same box is wrong.

Anyway, I think Joel here gave a pretty good answer, considering the state the game is in right now.

Matrix has more cred with me than Strategy First when it comes to releasing cleaner games[&o] So i can wait til november(?) for a game that plays well and is balanced out of the box

What november? Joel, who's most authoritative here when it comes to release dates, as he works for 2by3, clearly stated in his post above that "game should be before second quarter 2005".

Even I, being just a lowly beta tester [:D] can say with 95% certainty that this game won't be out by november. Lets be realistic. Posts like yours can be misleading.

Can we assume that the full page ad in the August/September Armchair General was a "tad" premature, then ? [8|]

Obviously not - since you feel the need to discuss it - it means the advertisment worked as intended [:D]

Hardly. If I had just been a magazine subscriber, I'd want to buy it not discuss it - and be wondering what the hell was going on.

Given that we haven't even reached "beta" yet, that's probably a decent date to shoot for. Heck, I'd buy it right now if I could.

i agree with paullus99

the game is rock stable and aside from tweaking computer AI (which is tough on challenging) this game is purchasable now in muy opinion. nevertheless joel and gary are really taking it up a level adding chrome with different sound effects and adding art improvements. what i love about these guys are they are perfectionists (in my opinion)so i was alittle surprised by the "delay" if thats what it could be called because the game is extremely thorough and completely layable right now-we just have to increase its shine.

BTW. there is a new pbem 5 player testig game going on now.

it is entitled "Albatross" i sent the turn to a newer tester and it should be making its rounds shortly. -sorry i didn't take a screenshot for u-typical opening for me as Germany.

i took out france and Denmark sent troops to the Yugoslavia border-increased armament production for a "Super Barbarossa" scheduled tentatively for spring of 1941. I'll ask Dgold to take a screenshot (Fow is on so not sure what u will see)

So I have to wait for February. Hmmm.... If only I could go into hibernation for a couple months to make the wait shorter. [:'(]

Oleg PROMISED, with 5% certainty, that the game would be released BY November. Now I feel 5% cheated. Where do I file a grievance?? [:'(]

And Maurice, you showed me a demo at WBC two months ago. Gimme, gimme, gimme! [:D]

Whenever you get this game finished, I'll be in line waiting for it.

I agree with Hertston, i mean its one thing to advertise for a christmas release product but for one that is over a half year away seems a little crazy.

It happens all the time in the "mainstream" gaming industry. I remember seeing ads for Half Life well over a year and a half before the game was released. Same with Half Life 2, Rome: Total War, not to mention some really extreme examples like SiN etc.

As for X-mas... since we betas all think this game is "buyable" even in its current state, I think you should applaud 2by3 for actually wanting to polish it to perfection, before release, and not "rushing" it to get to the X-mas market, as many other companies will do (it certainly seems doable given the state of development the game is in).

So bear with the devs some more, and we hope to entertain you with AARs and stuff in the meantime (though we got a bit lazy lately in AAR department).

Nah, I vote we rush it out for X-Mas and patch it for the Easter holidays [;)]

Hell, I say you release it now and not bother with it anymore.

Patches? Patches? PATCHES??? We don't need no stinkin' PATCHES!!!
