the complete 1.3 contains sound files.
the small 1.3 does not.
If you happen to have a broken machine that will only work with the 22kHz sound files, use the small one so you don't overwrite the sound.
You might want to be seriously asking yourself *why* you can not play windows media audio format files without crashing as it has *nothing* to do with WitP. They are all played through standard directx hooks.
Bad drivers or Bad hardware ... one or the other to blame.

Mr. Frag;
I think you're right, this is not a WitP-specific problem. I just remembered when I watched a movie a week or so ago the sound would keep disappearing after 20 minutes or so, forcing me to restart the program to get it back. I just assumed it had something to do with the movie itself. But a little while ago my Winamp sound disappeared too and I had to restart the program to get it back. I'm thinking these are all symptoms of the same thing.
Not that I have any idea what it is, since I've tried two different sound cards and different drivers. Could it be a virus? Or perhaps bad codecs?

It's possible your computer power source is giving out or you have some loose and over heated connectors.

What exactly is happening at the moment it crashes on you, are you looking at a
ships detail? air to air combat running? What...
Lots More Detail on what is going on will help us understand what is going on and
maybe help you.
Pry. Is this the line to list problems? [8|] If so, I have had the game freeze up
on me a lot( during various click activities all over map). I "cntl/alt/del" in order to
escape this freeze and
in task manager find that the Witp executable is using over 95%
of CPU in every case. Thank god for the autosave.[&o] One time it froze while it
was just running pre-turn routine stuff and I was listening to the (Original)sound
track. Most freezes ocour with the music volume set to 0. I have a homebuilt PC
with Windows XP. I am running version 1.3 of witp.
Need more detail? Let me know.
Thanks.

Just curious, what makes are your motherboard, chipset & processor.
SPWAW 8.30 did the same on my machine.

Are you a dev? Maybe someone listing bugs?[8D]

No not a dev.
Just folk.
It's just seems that people who are having the most problems with their simulation from Matrix have ASUS motherboards.
Has anyone else picked up on that?

You might want to post the results from running DXDIAG. It is generally the starting points for these threads, when I don't see one, I generally ignore the thread as without it, everyone is just blindly guessing as they don't have any information [;)]

I have an ASUS A7N8X mother board with an AMD Athlon 2600 and I have not had one problem with WitP. I suggest that it is a driver issue somewhere in your Windows OS or something running in the background.

I guess I should have been more specific, an ASUS motherboard with an Intel chipset and a Pentium 4 processor.
But still ASUS boards in general.

Now that makes me wonder. I went through a much worse click and die session with (early)UV with the same computer and same board[:@].

Any specific area you might suspect would show up as a fail or "needs fixin" in this DXDIAG report? [&:]

Perhaps that DXDIAG will show me the error of my OS/MB ways.

I have no problem what so ever with my system until I load SPWAW 8.0, 8.20 or 8.30.
Once SPWAW is booted up in MECH.EXE my system resourses run wild, over 50% with SPWAW idle, with usage spikes right of the scale 100% in task manager when SPWAW is in scenario play & nothing else running anywhere.
Just as you stated about WITP.EXE. 95% of CPU. Thats not good.
My video display blacks out.
