Just out of morbid curiousity, can you name two space simulations that you did like? I'm just wondering what my competition is here.
There are many games which do (some) things better than Starshatter. Rules of Engagement, though ancient game, made me great impression. Last night I decided start playing Starfleet Command (got it cheap), and when in first training mission voice introduced himself as captain Sulu, I didn't got much sleep that night :P

But there are not many games, if any, which are as versatile as Starshatter. That is Starshatter's strongest point: it offers something for everyone. That is also major weakness: game is too diverse and someone who is looking good strategy game will find out that strategy part isn't that good. When I was testing beta versions, I found out that starship ordered to escort my ship left behind over 100 kilometers and when enemy destroyer group came to vicinity, closest AI ship from my side charged towards whole group and I had to constantly order it to pull back and wait last ship in line. Very clumsy compared to Homeworld. I hope this is fixed.

However I guess this game has some heavy potential as multiplayer game and I have dreams about tens of people playing game as fighter pilots, starship captains and battlegroup commanders and AI can be used to increase numbers to hundreds. Played Battlefront (Xbox version) with littlebrother and it was very cool to fight as Stormtrooper as one of the hundreds soldiers and take AT-AT out to ride.

What I tried say again...? Yeah, Starshatter is not bad game, it is very diverse, makes me want play MP but there are better space combat simulations (Freespace), better starship simulations (I-War maybe) and better space strategy games (Rules of Engagement) than Starshatter. If someone wants all in one game, Starshatter is the Ultimate Space Combat. But for others like marky...

SW, the window pops up the first time you run SS. I thought you could jump ahead your starting rank from the menu on the bottom.

It was so in some version (3.8.x?). It definitely isn't in 3.9.4.

I have not found any such window in my 4.0.3 version [&:] However I am an ensign now. I hope it will not take long to become a lt. commander so I will be able to command a destroyer.

Thank you. I will try it as soon as I get home from work. Maybe a stupid question, but I suppose that the file should be copied to the game somewhere. Am I right?

Not stupid question! No questions are stupid... [;)]
Yes, for it to work you need to copy that mission inside your starshatter folder, inside the mods folder, then inside the missions folder and that's it!
To select it once in the game, go to your custom missions folder and just fly!!!
Good luck!!!

Yes, it does. However I have another qouestion, if I may. Now, when commanding a capitalship, I sometimes do not understand the mission goals. For example I choose the Courageous class cruiser escorting the carrier, and the mission goal is to Escort carrier battlegroup. What does it mean? To destroy everybody? Last time I played for 40 minutes, destroyed everyone and after pressing ESC + 1 the mision still did not shown as completed.
Or when I choose to command a cruiser in cruiser task force, I gain goal look for enemies in sector .... Last time I spent 30 minutes flying from one corner of the map to another like idiot and no enemy had shown up. Am I doing something wrong?
