I dont know if this will interest the two of you, but i thought you'd like to read up on the new british carriers! [:)]
The two vessels, will be the largest and most powerful surface warships ever built in the UK.

Wow, it looks like the end result of a Nimitz and an Invincible in the back seat of a car. I can see the Nimitz influence, but overall she looks like an Invincible on steroids.

Hehe, God bless the US.

At least we were the first too.... uh.... Hmm. Carriers, no. Battleships? Damn. Cruisers.... damn... well, at least we did come up[ with the 110 foot sub chaser before everyone else! [:D][:D][:D]

What really hurts is that we wern't the first ones to put external torp launchers on a sub. [:D]

hahahaha.

We did it the cheaper way, we just painted bullseyes on ours.

Actually, a true story I read in the book "War in the Boats", on the USS Crevalle I think it was, the crew were ordered at sea to paint the side of the sub black for the new camo scheme. Well, it wasn't until a few days later they noticed it, but the crew had painted "F*** You Japs!" in big black letters on the side of the boat. Needless to say they had to repaint it pretty quickly.

I guess that is one American first....

Did I miss what they said the displacement was going to be or is that top secret? But yes, big, glorious, very impressive....and completely useless. NOW the Brits wanna flex their muscles? After Commons completely gutted the Army and Navy and the defense budget?

I seem to recall some kind of a story about a USN sub whose paint got singed at Manila. So when they got to Soyerabaja they decided to repaint it but could not find the appropriate tones. Eventually, they cobbled and mixed something together, painted her and went to see. After a few days they started to nitice that the Japs were paying particular attention to them. As it turned out, something between the lead-based paint and the shallow, clear water made the sub look bright orange when seen from the air. Maybe I'm mixing it all up and I cant remember where I got this from but evidently this was the basis for at least one of the exploits in a movie.

I think that was Seadragon. That or Seadragon was the one that when she surfaced, her paint ran leaving only the red lead.
