Well Crap... I wonder if EBGames will refund my pre-order money since I will have to move (leaving military) before the game is released?? I should have learned my lesson when the exact same thing happened with Ultima Online back in 97. Never pre-order games when a move is on the horizon...

EB Games never charges you until it ships, if you placed the order online you can go to "my orders" and choose "cancel my order". They are top notch in my book though they can be a little "Off" on release dates[;)].

Well, this is simply another delay from the date it was posted for release.

Good luck guys hope you eventually get it.

I am going to give HOI 2 I waited this last month and now it is another month it may never acutally be out. If and when it does I can just wait until it drops in price or pick up a copy on Ebay for $10.

Too bad Matrix has not learned retail outlets are a loss not a profit center. Pay for books, boxes, profit for distributor and profit for retail store when a simply DD would have been available now as shown in ALL the releases. Also they could have then sold us a copy of the game in CD with book if they wanted doubling there profit.

Not sure how they could have bought the retail is better idea but guess it is cus I am off to Best Buy to pick up HOI 2 and will pass on this game for a few months at least.

I remember when EB had Empires in Arms listed as available for purchase Christmas of 2003. Still waiting for that one eagerly but I know Matrix will eventually get it out. I am going to need to buy a third computer when that one comes out so that I can play WITP, WAW, and EIA all at the same time.

Need a bigger desk too!!!!

Obviously, you are suffering from a bout of selective reading... [;)]

If you read any of the posts from Matrix they specifically state their reasons for going the retail route with this release....

1) This is probably their best shot at having a mainstream title that crosses over from the very small world of strategic warfare games.

2) DD is great and their profit margin is big on each individual game sold but total sales are small. Best Buy alone could sell in one day more copies than people download in a month. Selling more copies at a lower margin can ( and will ) equal or better lower sales at a higher margin.

3) Exposure, Exposure, Exposure.... The more copies sold, the more people visit Matrix website. This can ( and will ) generate sales of their other DD only titles....

This all makes perfect sense to me. It might not work but can you blame Matrix for trying? Especially with the crossover possibilities of this title.

I wish them the best of luck.

Somebody from Matrix better call EB Games if the date is really the 28th - according to my local EB store, they expect their shipment sometime today (3/16) and they say it will be on the shelf tomorrow (3/17). Great way for your vendor to p*** off your customers by letting them advertise false info.

Give us DD now please!

Everyone wants a ship date....... drum roll please. Gary Grigsby World At War will start shipping to retail stores on March 28, 2005. We expect it will take a few days to reach the stores. Once we get a better date on when the stores will have the game available we will set the digital download date as well.

What will the difference be?
In store version with printed manuel and higher price vis a vis DD with electronic manuel and lower price?

Sorry pal but you are wrong on this one, there are some games that the publishers developers will make "more profit" by going retail than direct sales. Direct sales is a smigen of the sales this game will get retail. Now a game like War in the Pacific, yeah, that made sence. I would never buy the game retail or direct download, but, I know a chitload of people will buy WAW retail and direct download. It's not an overly complex game and it resembles Axis & Allies and Risk so much in looks, it will sell on that alone a large amount of copies.

Plus, direct sales is not the greatest thing this side of hamburgers just yet, millions of people still do not even own a computer or internet connection. You act like everyone in the world buys direct download these days, lol, hardly.

Going retail will sell this game to people that dont even own a computer?

Well ebgames and gamestop now show the release date as 3-21. You would think that someone would let them know the exact date, since the exact date is now known.

Be advised that the retail chains do what they want with dates. Developers & Publishers - big and small - are driven nuts by this process and have no real control over it.

ah something like that happened to me in the 80s. I was living in Iceland and was about to be transfered. I ordered War in Russia (80 bucks). It arrived 2 days before I moved. My computer was already packed up and shipped with my household goods. All I could do for the next two months was look at the box and read the manual. It was very sad.[:D]

At least it came with a manual. Just think how frustrated you would have been if it came with a pdf manual on the disk. [:D]

I called EB Games, and they said its showing that they'll have Game tommorow. I asked them how they came upon this date, and they said that they got info from the Publisher/Developer......and have no control over it
