You gotta tech your fleet up with USA wealth to withstand the onslaught... and attrit the German air and naval forces. Even if your fleet goes to the bottom, it will be at such cost that you still win... thats all the fewer resources that won't be used against Russia.

Okay that might work. I just wasted too much supply moving the fleet so I couldn't build tech. My tech costs are still pretty pricey, especially the out of control ASW and transport capacity techs.

Trying to blockade the Germany navy can get expensive in terms of Fighters if Germany IS building up her air for a Sea Lion attempt. Since the are hit on the German turn and not your own, you dont have use of them again till the following turn. Also, once Gibraltar falls, you'll need to have fleets available to stop the Italians raiding into the Atlantic and threatening invasion of England from the south. I dont think the Brits have enough to bottle up both fleets completely (although its possible I'm not doing something right.... [;)] )

If germany attacks spain, just move your forces just across the strait into spanish north africa, and you still block the med. Of course, with gibraltar, germany will block the med, too.

I have found that, given the huge number of transports the WA have, trying to tech up transport capacity pays very little dividends. If you want to invade something, just build more transports! It is much cheaper than trying to tech up capacity.

Spanish Morocco usually is occupied the same turn that Spain falls. Its usually not a huge force, but at that stage, I dont want to pull enough people out of England to actually try and make an opposed invasion.

Secondly, Spanish Morocco does not block the Med if the Germans control Gibraltar. The ships can just enter port in Gibraltar and then exit out the other side and there is no OP fire. It takes and extra movement point, but its safe.

Good point about the port, didnt notice that. Otherwise, england could prevent occupation of spanish morocco with a fleet in the west med.

Looks like making the med an italian lake by taking out gibraltar and egypt is a pretty obvious move for the germans, then. Of course, when the US joins, it gives the allies a broader choice of landing spots, but until then, it frees up forces from defending italy, as well as the obvious benefit of putting preasure on england.
