It would help, I think, if posters would identify which side they are playing when they see the problem.

We have a PBEM started under 1.50 and Combat Animations were ON.
Now it seems that Allied side was the first to do the upgrade, and Combat Animations are not there anymore. I'm trying to confirm with the allies if he did upgrade our save to be sure that is the problem, but it has to be since I (japan) have never turned animations off.
My question is, is there any way we can revert this back to animations ON without the need to redo the turn that caused them to go away? I have done my japanese turn now with animations ON, is there any chance that will be enough?

Just got info from allied side, he says he didn't do the upgrade and that he also allways had animations set to ON, so I'm even more confused now... If I'm the one who did the upgrade why didn't I see the animations...
I hope the problem will go away after he sends the files back under 1.60 and the nex combat replay will work with animations ON...

Here's a FAQ from Mike on this. Let me know if this helps:
PBEM Turn Sequence:
1) Japanese player gives orders. He saves the game. The saving routine looks at his settings for combat reports, summaries and animations and saves them.
2) Allied player gives orders. He saves game. The saving routine ignores his settings for combat reports, summaries and animations.
3) Japanese player executes turn resolution. The game looks at the settings saved during Japanese orders phase and uses those for execution. The settings in current use are saved elsewhere and restored after execution.
4) Allied player executes turn resolution. The game looks at the settings saved during Japanese orders phase and uses those for execution. The settings in current use are saved elsewhere and restored after execution.
5) Goto 1). If the Japanese player wishes to change settings, he so does.
In all cases and at all times in PBEM game, the hot keys for combat reports, combat summaries, combat animations and the ESC [escape] key do not function.

Good news! Second turn after the upgrade and combat animations are back ON.
It seems only time we missed combat animations was when I (japan) opened allied file saved under 1.50 with the new 1.60 version.
We both had animations ON but they were not seen in that transition turn combat. Now all is back to normal after I received next allied file saved under 1.60

OK I also ran the second turn now and all is well. Annimations are functioning normally. I have another PBEM with the same problem and I will see if the problem goes away in turn two.
It appears this may be alot of talk about nothing.

Hmmmn,
New 1.6 pbem game with myself as Allies. No combat animations, the jap player has turned the animations "on" as of 2 turns ago,we'll see if it resolves itself in another turn or so. Very anoying without the animations.

After loading the save, hit your P key to bring up preferences. You'll see what the Japanese player has set. Due to the fact that changes happen *after* the witp001.pws file is generated, it takes a turn to get things back when changed.

I've been facing this issue for the past few turns. I waited because that seemed to be the fix, but after 3 turns animations are still gone. I am the Allied player and I upgraded first. My opponent has also upgraded again just to be sure. He is showing 1.6 as his version too. I hit the p key and it shows animations on, but it also says the japanese player has not upgraded database, or something close to that. Any thoughts, I miss seeing my bombs hit home (or just get his ships wet as seems to be the case more often).
Thanks for any help.
