PoW are the one part of the game I see no reason for. In a game that stresses combat, diplomacy and economy I don't see the reason one should model down to the detail of having to feed and care for PoW. To me at least, it adds nothing to the game except frustration and I would be happier if it were abstracted.

Looking at some of the gamey ways people are considering dealing with it, I think there are many who are on the same wavelength as myself.

There are so many good points to this game, but in virtually every single solo campaign I have started, at one point or another, an army has popped up behind my lines for no logical reason and it annoys me to have to chase them down. They have not accomplished much aside from eating depots...but all my reading of the period has not indicated that PoW armies were popping up yearly like so many Spartacus' (Spartaci?[:D]).

I love the idea of POWs adding to VPs. At least they would have a purpose. I also like the POW exchange ideas. However, the feeding and housing 200k of POWs is just way out of control..

a) I have proposed that you should get more VPs during a peace treaty if you have more (live) POWs - that would create some incentive to keep them well
b) I have proposed that POWs inside a city should not be freed until the city is occupied, rather than when the province is entered - then it would be safe enough to put some in each city
I propose a game setup parameter that turns off the whole POW concept.
