It's maximum take-off weight was 410,000 pounds (about 205 TONS), and it could carry 86,000 pounds of bombs to 1,800 mile range.

Hard to tell from this (great) picture - but it almost looks like they have a disco set up in the aft section of the B-36![X(]

The AF museum at Wright/Patterson in Dayton Ohio has a B-36J on display in a hanger with a whole lot of other aircraft. Must have been 15 or 20 minutes before I realized that I was walking around under a plane which was the B-36J. I was busy looking at the other planes they had parked under it. Seems like its 15 to 18 feet from the ground to the bottom of the fuselage. It's really something to see a plane that big.

I do believe that that bomb was intended to be used to penetrate the U-boat Submarine Pens in France.
