Brady's very first "Name This" thread was a photo of Dick O'Kane receiving his MoH....

And I was the one who got it right... (It's my only claim to fame on this board!)

I did not know that. I was really hope he had a picture of Dick O'Kane. I always thought he was the finest sub skipper in the war. I put Dick up there with Sam Dewey as the top two American Sub skipper of all time.

Brady, do you have a picture of Dick O'Kane getting his Metal of Honor in you magic box? I am sure the others can have a ball with another picture to humorously deface.

Not necessarily a sensitive issue. Just looking for a pic of Dick O'Kane and Sam Dewey if I could find one.

Well..there you go. Truman knew how to take a PR photo. He looks the recipient in the eyes, shakes his hand and looks genuinely thankful. Political polish I guess.

madflava13, WoW thats prety cool, all those signed books espichaly Thunder below, the only Signed book I have is Baa Baa Black Sheep, Signed by Pappy, I was like 10 and I met him at an Air show, It is my most prised book to be shure so I know how you feal about Thunder Below.

Thanks much, If you ever get the chance to read about him and Sam Dewey, take it. They knew their sub tactiques.

Baa Baa Black Sheep was a great book too. I would have loved to have met Boyington.

The only reason I have the Tom Clancy books signed is that when he was first starting out, no book stores would hold signings for him except for this tiny place in New London, CT. Ever since, Clancy has only held book signings at that location as a way of saying thank you. I just happened to grow up nearby, so it worked out...

Meeting Boyington would have been something I would have loved to do also as well as a few others (Rommel for one). New London/Groton, Ct. a lot of memories there. I was stationed in Groton for a few years too bad I missed Tom Clancy. Having been there, he had a excellent grasp of submarines.

About Half are from the Internet, I get them from various places, the other half are scaned from book's, perodicals, or whaterever else I can find that has a decent pick on it[:)]

This is the closest I came to meeting him.

It was a Hot summer day, My Mom took me to the air show, it was a suprise that he was their, we did not know, untill of course we saw him, aparently he had a trailer, a gulf stream and a table set up near the planes on display, and a yung woman was in atandance, a long line, made even longer by the heat and my excitement, led to his table and the books he had out, we spoke briefly but I cant remember what I or he said, I was a bit dizy with it all, the day the heat the planes the wide wounder of being suprised with someone who was such a hero for me at that age, frankely I am not shure if even now I would deal with any better[:)]:
