When I logged on tonight, I saw that some of the thread from here were moved to the General Discussion Site. So I went there to see if anything extra was added that was worth reading. Nice to see that some Bobbys do have guns and are willing to use them. I remember the old Robin Williams routine where he was describing how hard it must be to be a Bobby "Stop! ......or I will say stop again!"

As a cop in the US I can't imagine doing my job unarmed. Only had to use my weapon once in 16 years but would have had a rough time not getting my butt kicked without it there as a deterent.

Probably an MP-5, so the officer had plenty to spare in case those five rounds did not properly relax the suspect.

EDIT: Correction...After reading the article that Speedy found, they say if was a semi-auto pistol. Either way the officer/officers would of had plenty of spare magazines and would not be worrying about running out of bullets. I'm sure they fired till the suspect stopped resisting. Would think there was an "urgency" involved considering what has happened over the last two weeks and this guy had wires hanging out of his clothes.

You could get the impression that they purposely killed him from just this line.

A couple of things.

Firstly, it appears the person in question was most likely being watched, as he was suspected of involvement in the terror ring that made the attacks on thursday. He was pursued by three Officers apparently, and it does appear he was caught and shot five times, as he was suspected of carrying explosives. Some eye witnesses have remarked on the size of his coat, others have reported wires in his belt.

We do have armed police in this country. The unit is called SO19, although diplomatic and royal protection officers will also carry weapons.

However, this sort of shooting marks a radical departure for the British Police force. There have been suggestions these Officers were something more than ordinary Policemen. There have been new guidelines recently issued which change the rules of engagement where Officers think a suspect has explosives on him, and intends to blow himself and others up. They seem to have been following these and shooting to kill, but there seems to have been absolutely no hesitation, which may indeed indicate these men were more than just plain clothes detectives.

I think this is the current understanding of what happened (the full Police version is not yet out, I think) but it does seem he was shot in this manner, because he was believed to be carrying explosives and be intent on setting them off. The Officers cornered him on the train and shot him to prevent any explosion.

Both the BBC and Sky News are apparently reporting that the man shot at Stockwell Station had no connection to the terror attacks. We'll see what happens...

Most interesting was the young Western Oriental Gentleman's protracted condemnation (to camera - Sky News) of these absobloodylootly NOT Muslim, Islamic terrorists.

It was very impressive (had me going) how he insisted that these were anti everything Islam stands for, how people like that were being wrongly associated with people like him in the minds of others and that these people must be the work this or that or the other or possibly the guess whos.

So, no organic connection to be assumed between mainstream and extreme Islamic interests. It was the guess whos.

Guess what, no guess again... .

Ahh, what we are capable of when we feel sorry for ourselves. And the mainstream feel victimised by wrongheaded backlash and so... .

The guy who shot him was reportedly in plain clothes. Heck, if some random guy pulled out a gun and started yelling and chasing ME, i'd run!!
