what really needs to happen, is better placement of the existing cassions, other than theplato crashes in detailed battles, the thing that peeves me off most, is your supply being surrounded and routed before you get to move them!

Yeah - I felt that way at first too. But it is FAIR - you get a chance to do it to the enemy.
My standard actions in the first couple of turns are all about safe guarding my caissons and artillery, and snapping up any opportunity targets. Then I spend several turns extracting any guys I sent after opportunity targets, sicne the AI tries to make sure I don't get 'em back.
Still, I do agree - I think caissons should come on in the middle of their army/corps - or just trailing it.

I was just just a dumb trucker in the reserve, and even I wouldn't lead with my supply, especially if I had the reins of the waggon[:D]

For the first patch I've moved the caissons back about 7 hexes. They can still appear on your wings, but they should be far enough back that the enemy can't find them in the first turn. We'll see what you'all think after this tweak, and if it's not satisfactory, we can tweak it again...

Am I right in saying that with the reinforcements also the generals of that army or corps do not arrive? because I have never had the pleaasure of seeing them arrive.
L-M
Yes, generals (at least their portraits) miss out arriving to their compatriots' aid.
No, that is NOT correct.
In detailed combat, generals come with their forces as usual.
In quick combat, although generals do not get their images drawn, eric assures me that they do come in, and do affect the battle.
If you have any evidence to the contrary, then it would be a bug, but I haven't noticed this stop working since I did detailed testing to validate it.
Mea Culpa [&o]
The generals do arrive.
