For some reason I have not associated Panther Games with MatrixGames...and just found y'all here...

I have been playing Panther Games since Fire Brigade on my Amiga 500. I own Red Devils and Highway. (And, I served with the 2/505 in the 70's.[:)])

I'm REALLY looking forward to COTA - especially with the supply rules. Awesome system.

A lot of discussion here about the various directions for development. Keep doing what you're doing. Your operational level system is awesome. I'll keep buying them - just keep producing them. (Guadalcanal?????)

Now, if I could only get the cooperative MP move up in priority....[:D]

Thanks Panther Games!

Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees......
This is the first mention I can recall of shipping this engine to the Pacific Theatre.
The possibilities are staggering!
Nice shot.

Just to keep you all informed, we are putting out another beta build this afternoon after fixing a number of bugs this week. We have encountered a nasty compatibility bug which seems to affect XP Home Ed OS. This is taking some time to narrow down and resolve. But we are making progress.[:)]

Not wanting to get ahead of myself, but when I send in the payment for CotA should I include the additional charges for BftB....as I want it to.

If it will be a few months down the road........well..... that really doesn't matter...let's just call it operating capital for the Panther People.[8D]

SeaMonkey,

No hold onto your money. As much as we could use it, it wouldn't be right. Our aim is to get BFTB out within 6 months of the release of COTA. We're already well advanced on it but there is still plenty to do on it and I'm definitely going to be taking a holiday once COTA gets out - it's been so long and I definitely need a break.

Just FYI the DDTs have come along nicely and we have good crews advancing the cause on all fronts.[:)]

Damn acronym reminds me of the Distributed Defects Tracking System we use at work for bug tracking. Guess who needs a break as well ? [;)]

Maybe an australian company will release a certain game for me to nicely spend my time during this break, mmmmh ?

JeF (waiting for CotA to take holidays)

PS: none of the above is serious though...

Don't laugh ! [:-] This is a real (but now obsolete) product to track bugs in a distributed environment : say your dev team split between the US and Europe, with your test team in China...

It can give you can have real headaches ! [;)]

PS: whenI say "none of this is serious", I meant "some of this is serious". I know I'm not consistent.

So...how IS it going? Is it possible to start thinking about a release date?

SITREP

We finally licked the Network bugs this week. Probably two of the most difficult bugs I have ever had to solve. The first was a connections bug - ie why we could not host from behind a firewall - and the second was an out of sync bug - why the two machines would get out of sync and kill the game. The first we finally tracked down to a bug in Norton's firewall with their Program Control settings. The work around being to simply kill the existing setting for COTA and create a new one. The out of sync bug was due to new reports we introduced. All solved now.[:)]

So we're definitely on the downhill run to the finish line. I think we're on track for signing off at the end of this month.

Hmmm, maybe I'm seeking too much hidden messages here and getting my hopes up .

(Yes I'd very much like to have finnish front done with this engine, but make one game at a time)

lagen,

Very droll. <G> there's no quarter given here, even for a tired designer making a typo. Just for you I've edited the original post.[:)]

I'm afraid we're all out of quarter. So you'd better fin(n)ish CotA soon, or else... [;)]

Adam and I have knocked over and stomped on all of the known bugs bar a couple I will deal with next week. A new build goes out tomorrow morning for beta testing. With a bit of luck we'll be able to kick off our first final candidate build next week. FYI a final candidate build is one that if no adverse reports come back becomes a Gold Master build - ie the final release build or version 1.0. So we are very close now.
