Same here with Private ryan! Best war movie ever made. But what sticks in my mine is all the war movies John Wayne did and he seemed to always say something like this "That IS ALL" [:D]

The very first scene in "Saving Private Ryan". The part where Tom Hanks is riding in the landing craft and things just go to hell. I was literally on the edge of my seat watching that movie. The opening scene really set the tone for the rest of the movie.
Yepp, my favorite scene, too. Whoever babbles nonsense about pride and honor should watch this scene very closely to see what war really means: bloody senseless slaughter.

2 goods ones for me are when Tom Cruise gets wounded in Born on the 4th of July and still gets up and continues firing when the rest of his buddies take off ( although my flak jacket would have stayed on!!![:D])
And pretty much any of the parts in Sands of Iwo Jima when the Duke gets in someones face or when he gives money to single mothers
oh yeah and when oddball tells crapgame what a hero really is in Kellys Heros

When Trumpets Fade - Every scene where the main character (forget his name now, been a while) gets promoted. For those that haven't seen it, get it! Great movie!

I think the best in that movie was when Kelly tells Oddball that he needs them to keep the tigers busy...
Oddball says, "the only way I have to keep those tigers busy is to let them shoot holes in me."
That and when Moriarity says, "I've had nuthin' but good thoughts 'bout that damn bridge all day!"

Rogue:
It's Big Joe that asks him to keep them busy...I love Moriarity's response to that....

then there's the next lines that were mentioned before about heroes...

Hmmph, all these ground war films.
I thnk Das Boot is the greatest war film ever made. And my favorite scene is when they've been on the bottom for umpteen hours, and the CO and the journalist are talking. And the journalist says something to the effect "we aren't going to make, are we?" The CO (Jurgen Prochnow) says nope. And then the Chief Engineer comes in to say the repairs are done. And Jurgen replies, trying not to break down "Gut, Johann. Sehr Gut!"
Followed by their surfacing and escape from the STROG.

Just noticed there is a Seaplane Tender/Destroyer in Seattle that is named the San Pablo if my memory is correct...........isn't that the ship from The Sandpebbles????? Which leads me to even though I dont know if you would call it a 'warflick' per se but still a damn good movie............when McQueen grabs the '03, runs the sight up and pts a round through his Chinese buddy (cant remember the actors name) to put him out of his misery.......... great scene.........along with when they run the Chinese junk blockade with Lewis guns, BAR's, 03's and deck gun a blazin'!!!!!
Alright all you military types what kind/size deck gun was that on the San Pablo........... I wonder if it will make "War Plan Orange" [:D] .

I personally like the opening battle scene in Gladiator; Ridley Scott himself said that it wasn't very realistic (what with catapults shooting much further than possible), but it was well made nonetheless.

Dream sequences could make a thread of their own. There's so many good ones. In film and TV series.
