-Another day of heavy air combat. Again the Zeroes scored a victory in the air, destroying 16 enemy planes with the loss of 7 Zeroes. However, more 6 A6M3 were destroyed by air bombardment. Overall, Japan lost 13 Zeroes and the enemy lost 9 P-39, 4 Beaufighters, 3 B-17, 1 B-26 and 1 B-24 (plus a C-47 in an unrelated incident). Three days of combat resulted in the loss of 28 Zeroes and 52 enemy planes (most of them P-39´s). No Japanese ship was scratched, but the enemy concentrated his efforts in the airbase, not in the Japanese convoy. The sad truth is that Japan cannot tolerate these losses, since the pilots will be replaced by idiots with 30-40 experience.....

-The enemy is growing increasingly agressive. While Lae was spared today, heavy bombers attacked the Admiralty islands, while a small raid with big escort hit the Japanese base at Shortlands. Heavily outnumbered the Rufes at Shortland managed to shot down 2 F4F´s, while 9 of them were lost (two in air combat, three in the ground). Overall, it was one of the few days the allieds destroyed more planes than they lost.

-A communication error resulted in heavy losses to the Japanese Navy today. All naval units near Shortlands were ordered to retreat northwards due to the presence of USN carriers in the area. Meanwhile, Betties in Rabaul were armed with torpedoes and placed in maximum alert. Unfortunately, one of the convoys failed to receive the radio alert...the results?

Bloodbath at Shortlands.
-The enemy launched a full strike against Shortlands with surface units. No transports were seen up to now. Both sides took heavy losses, the USN seem to have achieved a tatical victory.
-This turn, the enemy CV´s stationed at only 300 miles from Rabaul. Bad weather spared the enemy ships from Betties, or, maybe, spared the Betties and Rabaul from the enemy......

Some rest to both sides as far as naval and air operations are of concern. In the land, the enemy is advancing towards Buka...the IJN lost three DD´s and one CL in operations near Shortland. In the air, IJN lost 34 planes, against 58 lost by the enemy. It´s posible that one or two DD´s CA´s still could be lost by the enemy. The result was a clear defeat to Japan, as the enemy was able to hit Shortlands and Rabaul withouth crippling losses.
