Modern even! Well, my hat's off to you. I thought going for the PTO was a little bit of a reach, but modern is sheer insanity.[:)]Still, if you can reduce the unit size to platoon or squad I see no problem with it. Provided you do something with the air system. Modern warfare would necessitate something that takes into account SAMs and other air defenses and long-range weapons that can be used without endangering the firing platform.

Not to criticize, but you are getting away with murder with the air system currently being used. I love the engine and believe it to be potentially the best out there, but the air strikes are way too abstracted. IMO.

Cheers

Paul

Hola, cabron! [:D] I just love saying that word without risking a fistfight.

Panther: Go modern, get a defense contract from military anywhere and make good money folks. If you make good money, we all benefit with your continued business life.

The West Front team are already deep into Battles from the Bulge ( BFTB ). The maps are done ( bar one ). The OBs done. The Scenario list done. The Estabs are a fair way finished. One of our West Front team members has had to pull out in the wake of Katrina. So if anyone is interested in helping out on this team drop me and Bil Hardenberger a line.

So that sounds like a first half '06 timeline for BFTB? Very roughly?

Looking forward to this one very much. Just spent a weekend touring the battlefields and am looking for a good game on the subject...this would hit the spot perfectly.

Oh, and the rest sound great too!

This position has been filled.

Still looking for a few good map makers though, for all other teams.

Yes the air strikes are abstract and yes it would be nice to have something more realistic in that department. But it all boils down to priorities and resources. For COTA we realised that a more realistic resupply system and mixed mode movement were absolutely essential to simulating the battles being covered and that is where we invested our limited resources. While air support played a very significant role at least for the Germans in Greece and Crete our abstract modelling of it still suffices to simulate the effect of it. Please remember that we arre primarily simulating land warfare here not combined operations.

For future titles though it will be high on the wish list. All the best,

Chelco is Argentinian. The Argentinians are famous for many things, many of them very fine things, but they are also well-known for their clever and frequent use of numerous questionable words.[:D]

Cabron is not a bad word in Mexico, but I am still going to change it as soon as I can get someone to answer me here at Matrix. I'm only stuck with it on two forums now. This one and SZO. Everywhere else I use paulmacg.

Paul

p.s. How about those guys over at the PzC forum? Are they sensitive or what?[;)]

I don't want to sound like I'm second-guessing you. Just thinking out loud.

I'm sure CotA will be a fine game. I know it is generating a lot of interest on the forums.

LOL - I've been following your exploits over there - the slightest suggestion there are some things that might be better implemented gets you a fusilade of abuse. Think about it this way : the poor sods only know the PzC system. I feel sorry for them :)

Hi,

I still can't see why you want it changed - I think it's a rather cool nick :)

I didn't know about the SZO forum until it was mentioned here. Yea, the PzC group certainly has a overly loyal following. [&o] But, I "know" both the PzC system (for PBEM, mainly) & the HttR system (for solitaire play, mainly) and enjoy them both. These "my wargame is better than your wargame" discussions (like at SZO, for example) are a bit unnecessary. One would think the mods over there would tone things down a bit.

Anyhow, looking forward to CotA! (Soon, hopefully!)

These "my wargame is better than your wargame" discussions (like at SZO, for example) are a bit silly.

It's not a silly discussion if you reword it to "how could this series become better / how does it compare to other wargames / what can we learn from other wargames" - which is totally taboo on the SZO PzC forum as it's the GREATEST GAME EVER !!! - The irony being that 90% of the posters there has never played anything else than PzC ...

When Cabron only suggested that some things might be improved a bit he got jumped all over :)

Compare that to suggesting improvements to the Panther Games engine here where Arjuna will take the trouble of replying with a fully explained yes,no or maybe to even the daftest ideas - I should know, I've made some :)

Nah, it didn't get abusive at any point, it's not a kiddie forum after all.
