Dear Millicent
Who knows when you will get this, I am still wandering in the jungle with some brave fellows I met up with.We are heading towards where we think our lines must be. After our retreat from the beach landing site wherever we turn we seem to run across the Japs, so far our luck is in and they have been spotted by us before they spot our small but plucky group. We ran into another group of tommies the other day, they were heading south whereas we have decided to strike north and west. They had 'heard' that the Japs had cut right across Malaya and were moving down on both sides of the peninsula - and that wherever they meet our troops we fell back in disarray. I had no time for these miseries and defeatists. They aim to get to Singapore where they feel they will be safe under the fortress guns and the protection of our great battleships. We, on the other hand head north, looking to cause maximum damage to the little yellow men.
Who knows when, or if I will be able to ever post this to you.... it may be you get it because I have fallen and some kind soul takes it with them back to civilisation.
In a brief rest period I sketched this picture of the others in my huge force. They seem to know how to handle themselves, but of course are very grateful for the advice and tactical skills I bring as an officer to them.
Till we meet again....
Sebastian

Thanks, don't know if you mean the destruction to the Japanese for which credit must go to my co-commander or the styles of this AAR.
I'm partially doing this as an alternative to the copy combat report style as I've particulalry liked the more narraive styles that are developing in one or two other AARs. It can give more of an 'imagined' flavour of what it may have been like. I do enjoy Wobbly vs herb, ens hanamato for example.
I'm also taking the opportunity to force myself to master greater levels of digital imaging by setting myself little challenges and then learning how to do them in Photoshop. That is the Yura under all that smoke and fire but it was docked in China in 1937 in the original picture. You will see that I have jumped from straightforward text to adding graphics, to puttign the 'letters' and 'reports' onto paper as I have discovered more of what to do.
I'm also impressed by the amazing knowledge of many of the writers of these AARs, so I'm just trying to keep up....
Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger,
Uhmm, I mean your style of the AAR. Of course your co-commander did very well.[:D]. How about some map screenshots etc to show your war progress if it is ok?[;)]
Cheers!

Well, at the moment screenshots of our progress are non existent its gritty defence on the menu at the moment.... and its notable that the Japs aren't posting any as they are, I guess, somewhat behind in their conquest of the world!
What you may find in the next few days is that Sebastian will resurface again and his next letter might be interesting.
At present reports indicate Brunei, Miri are lost, the malayan peninsula is cut and strong Jap forces are moving south. Forces are approaching Rangoon of 2 division strength. Northern Philippines are under attack and Clark is under daily pounding from the air.
However elsewhere things are a bit nasty for the Japs, a counterattack at Canton has messed up their Hong Kong assault and they still haven't taken it. As far as Rabaul goes they were unpleasantly surprised by the stiff resistance of the allies there. Central Pacific has seen significant losses (as shown in the AAR) to their TFs bound for some of the islands.
Maybe Scott will post soon, some of his stuff in the other AAR he does is really good.
Cheers
Roger
