I think all of Mogami's opponents need to chip in and buy Mogami a decent computer...

Hi, Well I do have this old lady who offers to buy me a computer...if I marry her. I won't go into what else she wants me to do.[X(]

Boy, I'd love to see Mogami's first turn.

Hi, When I ran turn 1 for Oleg I saved over top my orders phase for Japan so now I have to send the same turn 1 to all games and I can't modify turn 1 before ending phase. (so the same mistakes will be repeated in all starts)

That sucks. I've done the same thing myself. Have you noticed anything you'd change?

Hi, Yes I'll mention it later.

"What's the point in invading places like Jesselton, Djodjangas or whats its name etc. Pontianak... many of those places would be auto-conquered from the nearest IJN base anyway. "

OK first a base has to be empty in order to auto capture it. Now class for extra credit why did I take these bases now? (rather then wait)

You know, Mog, looking at that screen shot above, I'm beginning to think you're going to hit 4:1 relatively quickly. There are going to be a lot of base flip flops as well as a whole bunch of ships scuttled. This is going to be interesting.

ME! ME! ME!

To take the garrisons of bases around the retreat options.

To avoid what happened with wobblys troops in Port Moresby, retreating toward the base next to Buna because it not yet changed side, instead of just surrendering there...

Hi, You get the cookie. Also a not insignificant reason is a size 1 airfield allows CAP and a size 2 allows offensive missions. (usefull forward locations for short range bombers)

I keep forgetting you can do CAP on lvl 1 airfields. Thanks for reminding me.

I like the idea. Good luck to both loonies! :)

West Coast is surely not necessary though. Not that I've ever tried it from either side.

WOW, a bunch of strange nations with funny flags, and they all belong to ME. Mwarghhahahah.

I am seriously thinking of modding the game so that all allied bases would use same symbol (US white star on green background) – I plan to use them under unified unhistoric command in this game anyway...

BTW I will be reading the Nomad's and Tom Hunter's lunatic threads, but not very closely, so it may appear as if I don't always have an idea what's happening in their games (that's because I don't)

I counter attacked with my surface forces here and there, resoning that not all of his zillion invasion forces is covered by SC TF. It appears they all are, and I lost every fight:

Still, two Allied subs managed to sink two transports (not sunk yet, but so damaged I expect them to sink).

Here's how DEI looks after two days of war.

War continues. My surface forces perform badly even when they manage to find enemy transports without DD cover:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat, near Cagayan at 42,59

Japanese Ships
AP Tatsujin Maru, Shell hits 3
AP Tenryu Maru, Shell hits 2, on fire
AP Toyo Maru #2
AP Ujigawa Maru
AP Yamafuku Maru, Shell hits 4, on fire
AP Daitei Maru

Allied Ships
DD John D. Ford
DD Peary, Shell hits 1
DD Pillsbury
DD Pope

And if there's even the smallest cover, I don't stand a chance:

Night Time Surface Combat, near San Jose at 41,53

Japanese Ships
DD Yugiri
DD Amagiri

Allied Ships
PG Isabel, Shell hits 2, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
PG Asheville, Shell hits 1
PG Tulsa, Shell hits 6, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
AVD Childs, Shell hits 5, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
PG Isabel, Shell hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

My DDs attacked and sunk one of his subs that tried to intercept British heavy surface units escaping from Singapore:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 20,41

SS I-121, hits 4, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
DD Vampire

Goodbye to I-121 – specialised minelaying sub, from what I know of Mogami he very rarely uses minelaying forces (unlike me – I enjoy this part of the game and when playing as IJN I hate losing my valuable minelaying subs)

My bases in DEI fall one by one, but so far I lost surprisingly low number of retreating ships.

Since he didn't land at Malaya, I decided to go on the offensive of my own. This morning UK forces crossed the border to Siam, without formal declaration of war, recognising the fact Kingdom of Siam became Japanese puppet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Songkhia

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 3003 troops, 27 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 39 to 1 (fort level 2)

Allied forces CAPTURE Songkhia base !!!

Chinese captured Nanning. Now in fact I think it is *very* unfair that several Chinese units start the game 100% prepared for Nanning (one of two isolated bases in South China that start as Japanese. This is, like, no brainer for Allied player – 4-5 units with 100% preparation, vs IJA brigade with no retreat path. Just very unfair. In this game I don't care (in fact I laugh like a lunatic I am bwarghahahahha) but seriously speaking in "regular" games this is just plain wrong.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Nanning

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 22923 troops, 160 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 12350 troops, 145 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 5 to 1 (fort level 3)

Allied forces CAPTURE Nanning base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
57 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Allied ground losses:
770 casualties reported
Guns lost 31

He still didn't land at Malaya?

I expected some strategic advice from you guys as to what to do there? Prepare for "Festung" defence, try to evacuate, attack the Thai isthmus, what what what???

Hi, IJN BB depart Cagayan and enemy DD appear.
If you want to see how to defend Nanning read Brady-Mog AAR. In this game I left it undefended because I want Chinese units playing in south rather then moving else where. (It takers quite a while for those Chinese units to get back where they belong)

I have to go to the VFW so it will be late tonight before I can get back to WITP. (but I need a little break from it because doing this turn1 completly wore me out)

Next question for class. Why didn't Japanese land on Malaya on turn 1?
Does that mean there will be no landings in Malaya?

Singapore airpower is a real threat to Japanese shipping till it can be closed down. It’s simple enough to bottle up Malaya by marching overland from Indo-China and using the newly captured airfields at Palembang and Northwestern Borneo to sink anything trying to evacuate units from Singapore until you’re ready to take the Peninsula at your leisure later.

Besides I’d send most big units destined for Malaya normally to Java in a no holds barred game like this. You can probably capture all of Java in a week or two given the poor state of preparedness of the allied LCU’s there. With both Java and Sumatra knocked out before the end of December, I doubt your timetable in Malaya will be changed much if any as you’ll spend most of that time reducing the air power there anyway even if you had made the historical landings.

Well that’s my guess anyway, a Java first strategy.

Jim

Sounds reasonable on paper... but....

In this game resources will not mater that much. We all expect this game to be over by 1/1/43 at the latest, and effectivelly decided well before that, say, October 42 or earlier.

(Mog said he will not quit so if he fails I plan to kick his lifeless body for couple weeks or months before officially finishing the game bwahhaha - if he succeeds then it will be over by 1/1/43, and he'll be the one doing the evil laughing, although in theory he may achieve 4:1 on any date in 43, but I doubt it will be the case here).

With this in mind you don't need to stockpile mountainloads of resources and plan on any long term strategy for the Empire. Java is not a resource/oil Nirvana in this game, it's just another island down there. So why the rush?

I haven't mentioned this earlier, but according to my intel he managed to capture both Palembang and Brunei intact. In most other games it would be somewhat unsettling, in this I don't care...

Of course, there is another possibility... [8|]

Maybe Mogami bluffed when he said this is going to be "lunatic game". Perhaps he just plans to play normal, regular long term game and all this "lunacy" talk is just smart bait for the stupid [8D] I am prepared for that possibility too, however unlikely it might be.

Oleg

Kragen on turn 1...[:D]

OK first a base has to be empty in order to auto capture it. Now class for extra credit why did I take these bases now? (rather then wait)

1) Create ZOC traps to force surrender rather than retreat

2) Take out level 4 airbases to take the surviving 17's and Martins out of the equation

3) Limit high-value unit rescues from the PI and Borneo

4) Cause severe sphincter malfunction on the part of opponents.
