willy, you asked two questions and you got two answers. I'm sorry if you don't like the way I interpret your question(s) but I can't stop and debate each point. Next time, ask a question that can only have one interpretation.[;)]

(hints given after questions 5, 10 and 15)
questions must be phrased so they can be answered yes or no

1. Dead or alive - DEAD
2. Are they a famous military leader? - YES
3. Sir John Monash - NO
4. Are they from teh 20th century? - NO, THE PERSON IS NOT KNOWN FOR THEIR EXPLOITS BETWEEN 1900 AND 1999
5. Are they the head of their state... - NO
HINT: This persons first language was English
6. ... or a military officer? - YES
7. Did they participate in the US Civil War? - YES

Sorry, Hood commanded a division, one of the three in Longstreet's corp, the others being Pickett's and McLaws'. The three Confederate Corp commanders at Gettysburg were Longstreet, Ewell, and A.P. Hill.

Was it McLaws? He was relieved of command by Longstreet during the Knoxville campaign.
