Your problem is caused by a disagreement between the font and the resolution of the display on the laptop. What is the resolution of your display. With disableing text services not fixing it the only thing I can think of is to substitute a font tailored to your display resolution and type. There is no way I will get to it today or this weekend but post your system specs and I will look into it the first of next week.

You might look into updated drivers for your display but that is definatly a long shot.

I have found the problem. For some reason BTR has (had) an issue with the Effects option in the display properties. By switching the 'Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts' from 'Clear type' to "Standard" (or just by disabling the feature completely:
