I don't think there is really any legal constraints in using a designer's scenario which he has freely posted on the net. Now if he had a copyright, that is another story. But I'm really not sure.

Nevertheless, the best of all worlds is to have full consent and to give full credit where it is due, as Daniel has explained.

But how you are going to find these guys... wow, that could be really tough! Perhaps if all else fails, a list could be made and posted on various forums asking for the designer to step forward.

Well, then, ............

1) google names........designer..
2) google groups.......posts 'designer name'......
3) General search for names; designer, scenario, time-period, blah-blah, rinse and repeat........
4) 'Kindly spread the word', as in 'ask in other forums for the designers to respond'
5) Give the suspect's names to the Brain Police, and hope the suspect's don't know your name.......


Generally, Lava, I'd go onto other forums where I know of designers bearing similar talent, and just ask, eh? I can't imagine any scenario designer that wan'ts to hide from his fans......and as no one is likely to look for crappy scenarios....... I don't see a problem, eh?

This came up a while back. Talonsoft apparently wrote it into the EULA that any scenarios created with the scenario editor were ipso facto property of Talonsoft for all legal purposes. Since Matrix now owns the games, I would assume they have theoretical ownership of all scenarios as well. However, I believe it's Daniel's intention of getting permission for all scenarios to be included.

Yeah. I think Rugged Defence also had a policy of getting permission first, which means that all these designers must have been contacted at some point in the past.

That reminds me; I don't think my "Ecuador 95" is on RD. It's a bit long in the tooth in some respects, but I still think it's better than a lot of stuff out there; especially the disk scenarios. It is available at Andy Eat's website. Is the review group aware of it, or do I need to email someone?

Grant, in general, the list of scenarios to be reviewed has been divided up into four groups, according to the alphabetization of the author's last name. My group has from Haris Riris to the end of the alphabet. You can email it to me at iamjamiam (at) yahoo (dot) com. I don't know if I will be able to get it into the list of 80+ scenarios that my group is reviewing, but I will check on the scenario review group's policy on late additions, and get back to you.

For those interested in sending in a scenario for us to look at, first check that it is not posted at Rugged Defense in their scenario archive (http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/news.php).

If it isn't you can choose a specific team to send it in to. Team composition is posted here (the complete group has already been posted above in this thread).

--The four teams have two players and two designers as Team Captains.
--Each team has two designers at least, and usually three players.

I just had a thought...

My most well-known scenario, and one or two others that I have worked on, depend quite a bit on the use of an executable modified by the BioEditor. What's more, several other of the better scenarios that have been made recently likewise depend on modified .exes.

Will this be possible with the Matrix Edition? Naturally, if the game is being patched there will be an entirely new executable and as such the old ones won't be compatible.

This is probably more of a question for the developers- but since it concerns the scenarios being selected I thought I'd raise it here.
