Just to let you know gyus - be cautious. I play CHS scenario and after patching to 1.7 beta I got several squadrons of Wildcats, Wirraways and TBFs assigned to different japanese commands. Loading old saves does not help so I think it is not corrupted save data, it is some bug in the code.

Although any allied help is welcome I think I will go through painfull game (and all patches) reinstall. This is one more argument against stepping up forward from the crowd ;-)

It is not a CHS issue, I am playing a stock Scen 15 and had this occur post 1.7 patch. I am hoping it clears up after a turn as all the air groups are fragments /1, /2. etc.

Give it time and Mike and michaelm can do something about that bug - hopefully [;)].

I have several allied PoWs also. About 6 or 7 fragments. Just upgraded from 1.60 in that game.

Fragments remain under Jap control after a second turn.

Wouldn't count on that. It did not happen in my case, and loading old saves did not help. I had to overwrite executables installing 1.6 patch over 1.7 beta one and start from the last good save.

Beware, I lost my squadron fragments after going to 1.7 beta.

So if you have some "lost sheep" best get them back to the black sheep before upgrading. At least, that was my experience.

Worr, out

I have had this problem pop up too after installing 1.70 beta. I never played under 1.6 so I don't know if it happened then. I can tell you it DIDN'T happen under 1.3 which I played until the pilot replacement bug hit.

Thanks for the warning. We were considering upgrading to 1.7 in one of my PBEMs but now I think we're going to hold off until it comes out as an official patch.

Yeah well I'm already hosed ... fortunately I have mutiple installs and just copied my 1.3 game files into my 1.6/1.7 install directory so if I AM hosed I only lost the 7 turns I did today and will just have to capture Saipan again ... for the third time I guess when the fix comes out.

Right now I'm just thankful that I do that (create new installs from my original 1.0 CD and upgrade each patch instead of patching over).

Guess I hold off on playing WITP again for a while (unless Michealm or others in the know can think of ways to try to prevent this from happening - I save after every turn so it seems I do one thing that may help it along) and get back to working on my WITP ship database and Oracle forms *sigh*. And I WAS so happy last night when the patch came out and I could play WITP again after 3 weeks without it.

I was hoping they would fix the bug where an air group on fighter sweep drops down to 100 feet (and strafes) if any of the CAP groups are set to 100 feet. [:(]

If you have not gone to 1.7, I would suggest strongly NOT to at this time.

Loading saves seems to be responsible for re-assigning Allied fragments to Japanese side. Not seen it for Japanese fragments to Allied.

SO basically, if someone (like me for instance) has gone to 1.7 and has hosed his game the best thing to do is just stop playing and be VERY thankful I still have my 1.3 game saves that I can copy back into the newer version when the time is right?

And in the meantime play with my Oracle instead of WITP?

If you're playing PBEM you can keep going.
The work around is not to transfer any airgroups that have damaged planes.

Wait till they are all repaired first.[;)]

I think you will find that when a save game is loaded, the Allies lose all their fragments to the Japanese side.

Thus ensure you have no fragments on map before saving.

Correct. Got that one figured out on the second turn.
I won't let it happen again.[;)]

I am assuming that once the bug has struck the saves created after the fact will be irrecoverably corrupted. I will talk to my opponent and see if a downgrade and a roll back of a couple of turns will resolve the issue. Fortunately its been a couple of quiet turns.

How do you down grade to an earlier version?

Reload the game and then re-load each patch in order up to the level you want to revert to. Actually it sounds worse than it is. IF you have the original DL and all the previous patches on disk it only takes about 45 minutes (actually it took me 45 minutes and that included a lot of screwing around; it's probably more like 20 minutes if you know what you're doing).
