Hi,
Don't feel bad. I felt the same way too - many years wasted playing Pacwar, UV and now WITP - realtime - easily 2 to 3 years - perhaps could have done many other things - like doing volunteer work, etc. Well I resolve to do other things while playing my PBEM games - learning how to swim (ya - play WITP and yet can't swim![X(][:D].) Maybe running marathon next year....[;)] Life should be more than WITP.[;)] IMHO

You could do worse, like watching that trashy tv. At least the brain is working for most strategy game play.

Yes good idea patrickl to temper the game with other hobbies like sports. I like to do cardio and weights as well as play chess a lot and other stuff. I used to collect comic books til I realized how much room space it takes up.
I'm thinking though how to play WitP without overloading on it. Like at 1 turn = 1 hour including loading game, sending zip and watching combat, you could play 1 hour a day but only get in 1 turn a day which would make the game last up to 5 years real time! I can see the temptation to play multiple turns a day to speed up the game time but the cost in real time is inhibiting. Hmmm... [&:] You guys who play multiple games at once must be supermen (or freaks). [;)] I'm not playing now but I can understand the fantastic addictive quality of the game. I'm also considering purchasing Battles in Normandy cause it looks like another juicy delight. That Gary dude really knows how to hook warloving people in with his goods.

Yep, trashy TV -avoid them. I hardly watch TVs. The only TV I watch are news, occasional documentaries and Panorama. I kind of like CSI though.[:'(]

I've never had a tv and probably never will. I used to watch the history channel at my parents home to see cool war documentaries and other stuff. I liked Ancient Warrior and Big Battles that Changed the World.

Yep you said the word : temper the game with other things. Live life with multiple goals - including WITP.[:D][;)]

Nice arrangement. [:'(] I am I ever glad I'm not married. I think PC games are wives worst enemy... well after alcohol, collar lipstick, screaming babies, smelly laundry, rowdy friends, and the hassle of finding a good divorce lawyer have all been factored out. Ahhhhh so nice to be single. Actually I shouldn't say this cause it seems almost everyone using this forum is married. [:(]

Heh, once saw a US caricature from the early 70's, showing a Danish airliner coming in to land at an American airport. It had pit hair under the wings![:D]

Never quite understood wive's hatred for Gaming in General. Other husbands are out chasing skirt, drinking themselves into a stuper, or gambling away their paychecks. Your is home in the other room pushing cardboard, miniatures, or a mouse. But they complain bitterly even so. It's like they can't stand ANYTHING that might compete for your attention. But if you follow them around 24 hours a day for a week, they go nuts about that as well. I think what they really want is a mate they can treat like a vacuum cleaner. It's always there when they want or need it, but can't do anything on it's own until they plug it in. But that's probably not right either, because a vacuum doesn't remember birthdays and anniversaries.

I would say 1.5 - 2 hours a day. I am playing 2 PBEMs versus Terminus at the moment. As far as my wife is concerned, she allows me one bad habit and this is it

Bitter? No, I just gave up on trying to understand women. Made me quite content. I have to do my own cooking and laundry---but they rarely pout or throw a tantrum if I ignore them for a while because I'm trying to finish a turn or can't remember the name of someone they work with or forgot the date that I bought them on. I like women just fine to work with or to date..., I've just accepted the fact that I can't live with one.

The only way for a man to truly understand the dynamics of the female mind is to become one himself. A sex change is entirely inadequate in this endevour as it does not replace the brain itself which is at the heart of female wishy-washiness.

The nearest I got to the 'dark side' was engagement.......

The closest I've come to the dark side in the new century has been recently aquiring a living space together with a female of the species. On the '+' side she actually knows enough history to recognize the antagonists in WitP as well as the geographical areas in question. During a drive around Oahu two weeks ago (in search of 'olde concrete') she actually suprised me by suddenly asking me "So could the Japanese have actually taken Hawaii and if so, why would they?"
On the '-' side, I usually am treated to eye rolling and looks down the nose after gleeful cackling is heard emenating from my computer room (after a particularily satisfying fragging of my Unreal Tournament partner) or if much typing is heard, i'll usually be subjected to questions like "Hey are you done arguing about what the proper shape for a Zero's gas tank should be in the game yet?" Or...."Done arguing about something that ended 60 years ago?"

Well, as I've previously indicated to you, it's obvious... The Zero's gas tank should be octagonal.
