Updated situational photo. The main thing to notice is Manilla. Not many objectives in the game have this sort of point value. Port Moresby has a point value of 75.

Manilla is the objective for me in this game, and I plan to hold it until the war ends.

A relatively quiet day for June 18.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/18/26

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat, near Lingayen at 44,50

Japanese Ships
MSW Hatsushimo, Shell hits 22, and is sunk
AK Akiura Maru, Shell hits 25, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk

Allied Ships
DD Chandler
DD Tracy
DD Borie
DD Parrott
DD Simpson
DD Bulmer
DD Pillsbury
DD John D. Ford
DD Truxton
DD Paul Jones
DD Hulbert
DD Noa

The allies decide to attack one of our supply transports near Lingayen. Once again we had absoultely no warning of their approach. I don't have many DD Escorts to spare, so this poor transport was guarded by MSW Hatsushimo. Needless to say, the taskforce got nuked.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack at 45,47

Japanese Ships
DD Nashi
DD Nire

Allied Ships
SS S-2

I can not think of a single strong suit of my forces so far. Poor leadership? Who knows. Even my ASW forces suck.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Clark Field

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 17987 troops, 113 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 10531 troops, 67 guns, 55 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
462 casualties reported
Guns lost 3
Vehicles lost 5

Allied ground losses:
294 casualties reported
Guns lost 8

Err.. It would appear the allies are trying to disrupt my forces. This is what one could call a "spoiling attack." My ground forces held.

More of the same on June 19.

Japanese Ships
SS UB-143 (O7)

Allied Ships
DD Noa
DD Hulbert
DD Paul Jones
DD Bulmer
DD Tracy
DD Chandler

Heh, thankfully we get away. This TF has a very good commander, and spotted the sub before it got a shot off.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack near Manila at 43,52

Japanese Ships
SS UB-143 (O7), hits 4

Allied Ships
DD Noa
DD Hulbert

Not this time. The TF is obviously moving south. Hopefully another of my Surface Combat TF intercepts it.

Defending force 24282 troops, 107 guns, 0 vehicles

Well, the combat report for June 20th was not saved. It's a good thing too, because it was another embarrasing performance.

One of our Surface Combat TF finally engaged the annoying DD TF that has been harassing Lingayen/Manilla/Bataan. I dont have the game in front of me but the TF was composed of at least 2BB, 1BC and numerous other ships. We engaged the enemy, and didn't sink a single ship. The enemy fled before they lost the battle.

Unbelievable.

Here are the actions of June 21st.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/21/26

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF at 41,51

Allied aircraft
Douglas DT-2 x 4

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
BB Kii, Bomb hits 1

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x Douglas DT-2 bombing at 5000 feet

OK. This DT-2 Air squadron out of Manilla is really getting on my nerves. I am contemplating a bombardment attack on Manilla just to shut down the runway. The bomb barely grazes BB Kii, but infuriates high command.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Clark Field

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 46829 troops, 254 guns, 32 vehicles

Defending force 24145 troops, 97 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 4)

Japanese ground losses:
1854 casualties reported
Guns lost 31

Allied ground losses:
206 casualties reported
Guns lost 6

Hmm... We need to do a little bit better here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Davao

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 11513 troops, 143 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 7748 troops, 55 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese ground losses:
691 casualties reported
Guns lost 23

Allied ground losses:
13 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Taskforce Daimyo continues it's conquest of Mindanao.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Clark Field

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 16939 troops, 89 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 46059 troops, 238 guns, 32 vehicles

Japanese ground losses:
15 casualties reported
Vehicles lost 1

Now my forces are getting into place. It won't be long now.

A couple of random thoughts.

- I am very disappointed in the poor performance of my Navy. I plan on doing a complete overhaul of not only TF composition, but TF commanders. I certainly haven't assigned the best of my commanders to any TF. All this will change in my next operation.

- The fuel situation is becoming a major annoyance. My ships are burning through it and can only last at sea for a few days, depending on their actions. Every hex that has a port, will also be holding fuel.

- Not enough Sub Tenders to meet my needs. I have converted a lot of AK ships to AS, but I don't expect them to be ready for 6 months. We certainly could have used at least 4 more to begin the campaign.

- My land forces are the only bright spot. They have summarily blitzed through the majority of their objectives and will hopefully soon be finished with major combat for awhile. They do get tired rather quickly in comparison to WITP. At least it seems this way to me.

- If the allied bomber pilots are inexperienced, it certainly isn't showing it. I think they've hit me with about 4 torpedoes, and numberous bombs. Thankfully it's only been about 1 at a time.

- There is still a long way to go, but I would rate my performance a D. I had a great initial plan, but the execution has been flawed. Not enough ASW. I can't seem to deal with Aeroplanes. My Surface Combat commanders aren't doing enough to protect my forces. And lastly, poor logistical planning in regards to fuel comsumption.

Things can only look better though. [:)]

June 22, 1926

Well, this was a pretty good day. Now that my subs have finally relocated to their new homes as well as the sub tenders, I can begin to make some moves with them. The action on this day centers around my subs.

Here we see SS No.36, which has yet to get into position, stumble upon an Oiler. Unfortunately for the crew, they will not make it to a home port.

Here we see an enemy TF moving to the SW. Intel thinks it is made up of several Heavy Cruisers. I beg to differ. As a matter of fact, previous to this, the subs which surround it hit DD Pruitt with a torpedo. It will be sunk within the next 48 hrs I am sure. A second sub got a shot at DD Pearcy. Neither time was a CA spotted.

As you can see by the photo, on of our own Surface Combat TF's is being sent to intercept.

Image

Of course CA Huron could be in this TF, but I doubt it. They have probably left the area. I can't imagine much fuel being here for them, and our rules prohibit using neutral ports. Of course ships have been in an out of Manilla, so they could be refueling there. I'm pretty sure this is the TF that surprised my forces at Lingayen. Hell if I know, the fog sure is thick in WPO.

Here is the combat report for 6/22.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/22/26

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 97,71

Japanese Ships
SS No. 36

Allied Ships
AO Pecos, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

See screenshot above.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 1030 encounters mine field at Jolo (38,59)

Allied Ships
DD Peary
DD McCormick
DD Dorsey
DD Pruitt, Mine hits 1, on fire

The mine must have done some damage because Pruitt was burning when it was attacked. I'm sure the American dogs were surprised to find that I have now mined their ports. [8D]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 45,48

Japanese Ships
AK Chile Maru
DD Kashi
DD No.11

Allied Ships
SS S-31, hits 2

Yay! My ASW hit something.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 39,60

Japanese Ships
SS No. 29

Allied Ships
DD Pruitt, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Boom.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 38,61

Japanese Ships
SS UB-125 (O6)

Allied Ships
DD Peary
DD Stewart
DM Rizal

These guys will either be sunk, or out of theatre within 48 hours.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF at 42,52

Allied aircraft
Douglas DT-2 x 4
de Havilland DH-4 x 6

Allied aircraft losses

4 x de Havilland DH-4 bombing at 5000 feet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF, near Lingayen at 44,50

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
AP Gosei Maru

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x de Havilland DH-4 bombing at 5000 feet
4 x de Havilland DH-4 bombing at 5000 feet

Now that's the sort of results I expect from airplanes.
