You didn't indicate what happened when you renamed your Sound folder to NoSound and your Video folder to NoVideo. Did you even do this step? Just becasue it works on other games is no indication that it will work with WitP.

WitP runs your computer flat out 100% load.

If you have anything questionable, borderline cooling, borderline power, etc ... it is likely to cause crash problems.

Please be more specific when you say crash.

a) computer locks up tight as a drum or reboots

b) Game dumps back to windowsbut system is working fine otherwise

type a) are likely borderline hardware/power, with type b) generally being drivers, directx, etc.

ORIGINAL: rtrapasso

ORIGINAL: nexusloco

AMD XP 2600+
1gb RAM
Sapphire raedon 9600 atlantis
14gb free in hard disk

and the game crash in other scenarios too (i try)

The game will routinely crash to disk under some circumstances (at least with some machines).

The easiest way (for me) to do this is to go to the Intelligence screen, look at ships available, sort by arrival date, then hit the BACK button. It will crash to disk about 90-95% of the time. This doesn't happen for everyone.

Under what circumstances are your games crashing? When you are watching replays? Entering orders? Checking intel screens?

hi all
i had the same problem, like rtrapasso.

i resolve this crash with reinstall windows media player 9 and install news indeo codecs and witp works right now..

sorry for my English im a poor little French

see u all

Phil

Looking through your crash, it is based on http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/ ... this is a third party codex (driver) for playing movies etc ... go to this site and get the latest one ... or remove it completely.

War in the Pacific works using only native Windows drivers, it doesn't need anything else ... adding third party drivers in is completely untested and basically makes your machine unsuportable as there are a million and one possible combinations some of which will work perfectly well and others will go up in flames.

The sound in WitP is MP3/AVI encoded with a built in play routine. Any fancy codex's loaded on your machine will hook into this existing routine and be used. (this is the way windows works)

Best option is to remove sound totally. If you feel really ambitious, you can convert the sound files into .wav files with one of the million free converters. the *.sfx files are actually .mp3 or .avi files renamed. (depends which version of the game you have - as I re-recorded them all some time back to fix a bunch of folks with bad codex code on their machines.)
