This style looks fine.
For me there was only one problem with your previous map: the LITTLE map was harder to use. So for me the decision of which to use would turn on "is the little map easier to use, or not?"
Yeah, I know about that problem el sid, and it is on my agenda to fix it for this release.

Looks good. Hopefully there will be hex-less version, and version without myriad of those lines intersecting the map all over....

What are those intersecting lines about anyway?

They're good to help hide TF icons "in" them [:D][:D] Otherwise I don't know.
I hate all map clutter. My ideal map would have just nice shades of blue where the ocean is. 50% of all-too-obvious placenames (like Phillipines, New Guinea, Australia, India...) would be deleted too.
(To simplify things I even modded my own map to show just the UK flag in place of British colonial designs [:D])

BTW one thing Andrew. Personally I don't use hex-ed map so I don't care, but I think in hexed version you should have placenames (fonts) *above* hex grid to make it easier to read, not below.

Of course, I'm the odd ball ... but when I'm "playing the game" ... I want something that is easy to read and gives me the information I need to "play the game" ... what it "looks like" is of secondary importance. Now if I'm just "looking at cool stuff" .. then having "cool stuff to look at" would be a higher priority. So, I'll agree that smooth colors, low contrast fonts, information starved versions are "cool to look at" .. but again if I'm playing .. I like your current version better as it gives me easier access to the info I need to play ... but whaddo I know !? [;)]
So can we ( as some have suggested ) have both .. a "cool to look at" version and an "easy to use/read" version !? !? [:)]

I actually agree with you J ... it would be interesting to see one that looked like a military map instead of a pretty one ... What would make it nifty is if the hex version was the military one and the non-hex version was the pretty one ... then you could toggle between the two depending on your needs.

Speedy, "those intersecting lines" indicate the different weather zones and the malaria, temperate zones.
Andrew, now I am lost. What [extended] map did I download a few weeks ago? I mean the one which has Sub Chaser's fonts.

That's much more pleasing to my eye, Andrew. You might try a little whiter white for the fonts, and even a little bluer blue for the water (though I'd still keep the saturation low--again, less eye strain).
Will you (can you) add the colored icons as well? I find those to be very useful.

Nice work on all the maps you've done andrew!
I personally like the sharper shallow/deep water markings. it makes it look like a continental shelf dropping off and you can theoriticaly see through the water to that point.
I love the new reef color!

Very cool, big improvement.[;)]
No hexes, got F6 for that.
No lines for zones, too much clutter.
Need non-extended map version.
Looking forward to your next update.

My map has always come in two standard versions - with hexes and without hexes. My more recent "non hex" maps have also not had any of the weather or control zone lines. I will be continuing this practice with this map version (as well as continuing to have different versions available with or without various features).

Well spotted. Normally I do have the fonts above the hex lines, but when making this test map the opposite occurred (I was only interested in testing the look, not worried about which layer was where). When I create the final version the fonts will be in their proper place above the hex lines.
